My ongoing delivery mess

Order date 3/19, R1T LG/BM, 20" standard, reinforced plate
Guide contacted me and went through the whole payment process. Delivery scheduled.
Then told the truck was shipped to CA by accident.
Given available options for a different truck. Picked a limestone option. Told I would have to pay for the difference in price.
A few days later(today) checked in, told that truck was damaged and given a list of other available ones. Pick a white one without the underbody shield.
I'm really not impressed with the process thus far.

Sounds like picking 1st at a white elephant celebration....

I find it hard to believe so many R1Ts are damaged In transport. Transporting new vehicles is a logistically mature process and I would imagine like most shipping, they contract out a trucking outfit to do the actual driving. This no real learning curve here for transport. Yes things can happen, but these are experienced haulers and the number of incidents should be rare or they probably would not still have insurance.

My R1T was supposedly VIN assigned and headed from Normal to Bellevue. I'm told it was put on the wrong truck and shipped to the east coast instead. They leave me with little recourse other than to wait for them to find a new vehicle to match for me. I'm not sure if this is believable, but at least I can see how that would be a Rivian logistical learning issue. Picking the wrong R1Ts to load on the truck would be the type of thing that could happen to a company that's still in the learning phase. If true, an opportunity for process improvement for sure.

In the end, I don't work in this field, and I have no idea what is and is not likely true. But it does seem that if they have assigned you a vehicle, and either mis-place it, mis-ship it, or damage it... It behooves the company to immediately pull the next one off the line that matches your configuration and white glove its delivery to you. It should not be a matter of a guide having to try and match you up with a new vehicle. It should just be a hard guarantee that you get the next one off the line.

My vehicle was supposed to be delivered to me May 4 but was damaged and now is pushed out to May 16.

On the Xterra, get the transmission line re-routed out of the main radiator. Had mine crack and trans fluid leaked into the engine rad and vice versa into the transmission. 7k canadian later and the lines are now rerouted to bypass the main radiator. Otherwise, solid vehicle and only problem I've ever had.

That was only an issue with the automatic so we are safe ?

I work in manufacturing and always find these answers puzzling.

usually if a new vehicle gets damage before delivery that is less than a certain percentage of its value(varies by state) the manufacturer/dealer doesn’t have to disclose.

things like a new door, or a new bumper, or a roof skin because a transport operator lowers a ramp onto it…no big deal.

I saw a Ford Raptor at my local dealer that was demolished b/c it was damaged during transport. Double decker car hauler, Raptor simply bounced the whole way as they did not have it properly secured and the top was crushed, such a sad site to see.

See it "should" be extremely rare, but ignorance is still alive and well.

Update: Tuck is at service station. It was supposed to be delivered Friday afternoon.
I get an email Friday morning that it was cancelled. Guide said PBA needed to be signed (for the new VIN) and WI doesn't allow same day delivery. Why I wasn't sent a new PBA when it's been over a week I don't know. Literally, if they sent it a few hours early Thursday night I would have a truck right now supposedly. So now, I have a delivery schedule for next Tuesday.
This whole experience has been extremely frustrating.

You will be surprised the perils new vehicles face while being transported on an 'open' car carrier. I have had 7 new vehicles transported, interstates, on flat beds or open car carriers over the years and I have yet had one of them arrived at my house, not have same type of damage; dents, scratches, damage to the front end, windows, windshields, etc. Possible reasons for the damages, per drivers include severe storms (hail, sand, extreme high winds), debris kicked up from road or other vehicles, carelessness (mostly due to fatigue) during loading/off loading, or famous last words; came like that from factory, etc. Possibilities are endless over hundreds of miles of open road.
By the way, I do a lot of interstate road trips, about 12-14 per year, and every trip would resulted in some damages to my vehicle, in addition to murdering thousands of flying creatures and numerous unfortunate road kills, just saying, it's a harsh world out there.
