In general, it's great for people voice their desired features, for example: this thread - "I want Waze."

How we get Waze is an implementation detail, and it's probably not super productive for any of us to keep repeating a preference (to which Rivian has already answered - not right now, at least)
Myself included... I don't want CarPlay, so I personally do not want to see Rivian reverse course and move engineering resources away from the native system to work on that instead.

I do like your suggestion about making it a paid option to further fund development.

I think it's possible that we might see a "native" waze app in the future. I'd love to be given mapping options since they all tend to have a slightly difference focus. I think it would be worthwhile for Rivian to have a program that supports big app developers (they may already have this and we just don't know about it)

[preemptive caveat... a lot of this is based on digging and reverse engineering and not "official"]
I highly doubt it. Rivian infotainment is using an open source fork of Android Automotive. You might say well then why can't they just toss the Waze APK on there and call it a day.... Licensing. Waze makes use of GMS and I just can't fathom Google allowing Waze on a forked OS without GMS. Rivian can't just add GMS and would have to switch to proper AAOS which won't happen because of Amazon/Alexa. I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon is a barrier to adding AA/CP because it would make it too easy for people to use a competing voice assistant but that's our only real hope of getting Waze.

Let's go over the logic of this request to a public corporation:

I want X feature so that I can more easily do Y illegal activity that is unsafe without getting caught.

This is definitely the type of request they'll be eager to support. Yep.

Also, if you're driving as fast as you imply, I sincerely hope you do get a big ass ticket.

Like Google Maps, Waze is yet another proven, established app with tons of data analytics gathered over years with real live consumer/user updates that helps with:

1) Traffic planning and accident avoidance
2) Route finding and mapping
3) Heads up accident and police locations, you know, so you can get help nearby
4) There are other countermeasures for avoiding speeding tickets, though Waze can certainly assist here as well.

Yup, just another way Carplay makes readily available, highly developed, valued, life safety functions, and perhaps already paid for services and personal data available on the highly paid for large high-def screens in the Rivian. It also helps keep Rivian resources from attempting to catch up to these industry leaders in sectors that Rivian neither has the expertise nor financial resources to divert to other things than making vehicles.

Marketing is getting the consumer what they want. Slightly off topic, has Rivian issued their updated Membership Subscription plan yet today?

I'd say rant over, but that wouldn't be accurate.

I need Waze. I drive recklessly fast especially on the highway and have never gotten a ticket in the last 10 years completely due to Waze and its incredibly user generated speed trap marking system.

I now have the fastest accelerating vehicle I have ever owned and I am forced to run waze on a separate device or drive around nervous knowing that so many other driver know something that I dont.

Other benefits that I don't care about.
Best real time traffic
best road closure info
road hazard tagging
Everyone needs Waze! Or at least the ability to use it. And satellite radio- need a music service that doesn’t rely on radio or cell towers.

Stay strong @bmedfo1, you and I aren't the only one's who drive fast here. After all, most of us just ponied up to have an uber truck that makes you hurl at launch and has a McLaren-like suspension system.

Meanwhile, the annoyingly loud majority bitched at the unannounced Pre-March 15 price increase, horrible PAK function prior to update improvements, and prior lack of snow mode.

Note that there's a ton of bitching in general throughout these forums, but it pays to focus.

I've been pulled over twice in my T so far. First time over 100mph, and luckily was let off with a warning, since that would have been automatic license suspension.

Second time was 23 over in a 50. Perfectly safe stretch of road to do that speed, didn't see the cop until it was too late as we crested a hill coming at each other. Got a ticket that time.

I have an extreme lead foot most of the time (actually trying to drive very conservatively lately to test if my range calculations change) and view tickets as the penalty for my behavior. I don't do anything to avoid the potential for the tickets. I know I'm doing the wrong thing and I accept the penalties for doing so.

I realize this adds basically nothing to the thread, but certainly must be a better read than more AA/CP discussions.

Rivians navigation did get me within 3 miles of the restaurant I went to for lunch today. And it did recognize a traffic jam or a closed exit ramp for a highway and directed me around it. But I did need to open Waze to guide me the final 3 miles to the restaurant. And it wasn't a case of a restaurant that recently moved, either.

Was it a good restaurant? https://docs.mapbox.com/help/troubleshooting/reporting-a-problem/

If not, nevermind.

Nothing special, doubt I would go back. I may use that mapbox problem reporter in the future, one road I take at times has been under construction, they've installed something like 3 traffic circles to improve traffic flow (its worked well) along it, and mapbox doesn't show them yet. But to be fair to mapbox, not all of them are complete yet.

Goodonya dood. This is a safe space. You are heard and supported, no judgement.

But you absolutely do not need to flog yourself with tickets. Get some countermeasures.

Did you get a warning the first time cause you were driving a cool azz Rivian?

The logical conclusion to that argument is that it's ok to take necessary precautions to avoid the penalties for murdering someone.

That doesn't morally fly with me, and I strive to avoid hypocrisy in life.
