A quick check via the internet, so salt grains taken, shows

Tesla has over 2,400 unsold Cybertrucks in its U.S. inventory, which is valued at approximately $200 million. ...

Cybertruck Inventory Overview
Current Inventory Status
  • Tesla has faced significant challenges with Cybertruck sales, leading to inventory build-ups.
  • As of late 2025, Tesla's sales of Cybertrucks have dropped significantly, with only 5,385 units sold in Q3, a 62% decrease compared to the previous year.
SpaceX Purchases
  • SpaceX has purchased over 1,000 Cybertrucks, with plans to acquire up to 2,000.
  • These purchases are part of a strategy to utilize Cybertrucks for their support fleet, addressing Tesla's inventory issues.
A look at Rivian's website currently shows a total of 93 R1T trucks of various trims in inventory ready for delivery. There may be more elsewhere.

Both the R1T and Cybertruck, like all EVs have experienced a downturn in sales in 2025. Tesla is down significantly more than other manufacturers, but even so, still outsells everyone else in NA, but lost its global leadership position to China last year.

This despite a ringing endorsement from President Donald J. Trump in a widely disseminated product showcase on the White House lawn nearly a year ago.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Great value, but polarizing looks and a political statement/symbol.
This only appeals to a very small demographic of people, hence the falling sales and excess inventory. I think they should discontinue the CT just like the S and X. The demand is just not there.

At one point Elon said if the CT didn’t sell well they would do a more conventionally styled truck, but at this point all he’s interested in are robots, AI, and autonomous driving.

It’s a shame, because what makes Tesla great is its amassed talent of engineers, designers, and programmers, not its CEO. I feel like many of their abilities are going to waste now.

Yup. This bet that Robotaxi gonna replace personal car ownership seems like a long shot to me.

Yeah, there are waaaaaaaay too many edge cases from people into sports that have to haul their equipment around on a regular basis to people with babies and/or small children that have car seats, strollers, bassinets, toys, wipes, etc. Traveling salespeople, delivery people with small home businesses, people in bands, art teachers hauling supplies for the next day, people who are taking care of someone sick and need to go to the hospital immediately without being charged thousands of dollars for an ambulance ride or waiting for a taxi to arrive, people who have to haul tools for work, people who like modifying their cars, people in rural areas that don’t want to wait forever for the taxi to arrive, the list goes on and on. I guess if there are so many edge cases, they’re just cases. 🤣

Some will argue a family could rent a robotaxi to go on a trip, but my family always packs the night before and leaves early in the morning on long journeys. The vehicle would just be sitting there over night costing me more money. Short-term rental would be better in that scenario, but that’s not what the robotaxi is designed for and don’t even bring up the robovan. Is that thing going to carry me and my friends to the top of a mountain for a hike or God forbid a ski trip with snow on the ground? It looks like a bad joke. Are a couple of robots going to come and pack the car for me? How long is that going to take and how much money will that cost? I just watched a robot from CES try to load a dishwasher and it took it 5 minutes just to load one dish!

Where it will work is in densely populated urban areas where having a car is too much of an expense (car payment, insurance, and parking fees) and charging is a pain in the ass due to a lack of infrastructure. Also in this scenario will the robotaxis have their own charging stations or are they going to be taking up all of the spaces at the public chargers, like the Uber drivers do? I don’t know if any of this has been thought through. Maybe a CT does have a use pulling robotaxis out of the way, so I can charge my EV. 🤣

End rant.

If the Robo-taxi was going to get rid of private vehicle ownership would that not already have happened? We already have Taxis, Limousines, Uber, Waymo, and Lift, there are many options to replace a private vehicle if that is what people wanted.

What Robo-taxi would do if it is a success is just replace those drivers

I think that Robotaxi, should it actually work, is simply going after the Uber market, which is way smaller than the personal vehicle market. It seems like a major strategic blunder.

That’s true, but there was crazy talk coming out of Elon back in the day that hinted at a utopia where parking lots would be turned into parks with green grass and trees because so few people owned vehicles anymore. Of course this was before the Amazing Abundance Era. Now all bets are off. 🙄

Elon wants to eliminate drivable vehicles and then eventually eliminate vehicle ownership in favor of Tesla providing you with everything you need from transportation to domestic services, like cleaning, laundry, and childcare. You just have to let him destroy multiple industries and environment and take away your privacy to do so.

What’s the deal with wealthy people and the companies they own trying to eliminate anyone from owning anything anymore? It started with music and moving away from physical media to digital downloads via Apple, then from there to streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. Next was DVD rental companies like NetFlix that then turned to streaming as well, until they all fragmented into multiple services that would cost the equivalent of cable is you subscribed to them all. Investors have been buying up homes and flipping them, so they can rent you the American dream because no one can afford to buy a house anymore. And finally eliminating car ownership so the only way you can move around is through these giant tech companies autonomous ride-hailing companies.

Does anyone really want any of this outside of the people and companies that control all of it? Don’t even get me started on data centers. Now they want to put them in orbit! I guess it’s better than sucking up all of the electricity and water here on Earth and polluting neighborhoods, so someone can ask ChatGPT what the weather is today instead of just clicking on an app and using 1/10 of the energy. Do any of us really need or want any of this shit?

End rant.

Existing inventory is of the top models. The new lower cost $59k is the one that has seen a surge in sales and large backlog.

Oh, and Biden showcased the F150 lighting on the whitehouse lawn and got on his knees to blow union pile.... inspite of that, the F150 was a major failure and "cancelled". LOL.

Nah, investor as a side hustle since 25. Imagine loading the boat on Apple, Amazon, Google, Nvidia, Tesla ect...since way, way back. Retired early 4yrs ago at a young 49. The math didn't make sense to work anymore as my folio was in lotery teritory. It's nice bringing in 3x my biggest paycheques just off my dividends and capital lasting at least to 100...will likely never depleted it no matter how hard I try. In fact, in the last 4yrs my folio has grown bigger out and away from me inspite of my spending and living the dream.
On Monday morning when you get back on the treadmill working as a slave for the master...remember that I won't be. 🤣
