Because it is a Christmas movie. PERIOD
I can't believe this is ever up for debate.

Christmas Vacation
A Christmas Story
Die Hard

And so on, and so forth ...

Side note: we added a new July 4th movie this year! Obviously Jaws and ID4, but Cape Fear (the insane Scorsese version) also takes place on/around the 4th :)

We had to add “Why Him” with James Franco and Bryan Cranston to our Christmas movie list.

The new model Y L will be launching this weekend. Anticipated pricing will be close to the launch edition of the R2. We now have these main key contenders for around $60K:

- BMW iX3 (range leader)
- Volvo EX60 (luxury focused)
- R2 Launch (adventure, off-road)
- Tesla Model Y Performance (on road dynamics, FSD)
- Tesla Model Y L (6 seater, increased luxury & space)

Does the new Model Y L offer differentiation that aligns with your goals?

I have been cross shopping the Rivian R2 Launch (order window Nov-Dec) and the Model Y Performance in the latest Mystic Blue (with all options included) for the same pricing. Although I don't need the space, the Model Y L should offer (based on Australia launch), increased space, rear heated and cooled captains chairs, increased range, even better sound system, increased range, vehicle to load, for about the same price as the performance variation. Compelling to me and I look forward to seeing what's included in the launch edition, and how it is priced.

It's unfortunate that Rivian fan boys don't want new owners (based on replies to your post). That will be critical if Rivian is going to succeed. Tesla has proven it can now make mostly reliable vehicles at scale. Rivian has yet to prove that. I am a current Tesla Model Y owner with a reservation in for an R2. I need to figure out in the next 2 weeks which direction I go. In reading a lot of forums on this site, here are some perspectives from a non-Rivian owner:

- Rivian has the same quality challenges Tesla did early on which the fans tolerate happily (just like Tesla did)
- People are just as frustrated with the lack of CarPlay and Android Auto in either vehicle
- It remains to be seen if Rivian can produce a car at scale. If you provide an independent look, a lot of the early R2s appear to have fit and finish issues at the very least (e.g., the charge port door won't lock)
- Tesla's OS is light years ahead of Rivian, so if you get frustrated with regular glitches (resets, etc.) you may prefer Tesla
- FSD in its current state appears far superior to Autonomous+ (which I would put closer to GM Super Cruise)

That said, both cars are interesting in their own way. A logical person would expect the Tesla to drive more like a car while the Rivian provides more of a Jeep/Bronco feel to gain the offroad experience.

It almost feels like people would pick between a Tesla Model Y L and a Rivian R1 as seating would likely drive the decision. For me, I don't want a vehicle bigger than a Model Y/Rivian R2, so I will keep mulling it over until my order comes up.
