I'm incredibly disappointed that the R1 and R2 software environments are so different. I'd love to know the reasoning behind why they rewrote the full stack for the R2. From a "Software defined vehicle" perspective, it seems strange to me that they've got to rewrite functions like Pet mode when they've already developed and tested it on the R1.
The R1 is going to get an OS2 update some time in the future and then they will be practically identical. They've talked about this for months.

I don't think that is necessary - My wife and I have two different profiles in our R1T, and we only had to train the garage door once.
I really hope so. The release notes seem to say the pairing is saved to the specific driver’s profile, which would be a pain.

No reason the same pairing couldn't be tied more than one profile. Or one profile having multiple grage door pairings? Even if it’s like what your are saying now, feedback can change that. Like with the turn signal sound.

For me, futilely, it's CarPlay. I could have any client I want for music/podcasts. A better voice recognition system. Conversational AI in September. Waze. Audible, Podcasts. WhatsApp, TelegramSignal, Messenger.Teams, Zoom, Phone conferencing. EV network maps. Parking apps. Travel apps (Expedia, Booking). Roadtrippers. Calendar, Reminders, Weather apps. And more...

And every one of those apps has a team of dedicated developers, debuggers and planners working on it - something Rivian can never match.

And you can upgrade the 'computer', whenever you want - while the CarPlay app demands a consistent load on the car's computer. It doesn't need to be upgraded. The "window" only has to ever be a "window".

The "bang for the buck" here is enormous to some. And you don't HAVE to use it if you don't like it.

And one of the best reasons? Tesla doesn't have it. It's a selling point.
