Sorry to hear that my forum brother. I was wondering - and was maybe going to start a poll - on how good the experience is for people who pick up at the factory vs a SC and I was worried about this kind of experience.

Hang in there and lets see what Rivian sorts out for you.
Great idea but i suspect the poll would show similar issues as the product issues remain the same the difference would be if you dont value the plant tour and the trip home adventure you'd not have the risk of disappointment and spending an extra grand for nought.
One thing that i learned from seeing the plant and process was that your chances of getting a "clean" i.e. straight off the trim/final line vehicle are about 1 in 5 as most go into a line of bays 10 football fields long for "further testing"

Yup, I had planned a mini-vacation around factory pick up. Fly in, take the tour, and drive back to Pennsylvania via a Kentucky distillery adventure, lol.
I do hope that your adventure is better than mine...

When you select from shop you do not see a VIN only when you get purchase docs i 8 step..so somehow Rivian mismatched the VIN to my shop selection or a longer shot the vehicle seats were wrong on the assy line and QA did not catch it.
But what did the paperwork and the app config say the interior color was for the VIN?

Apparently not. First every vehicle is supposedly built to order. I was told that the Normal inventory could be 1) ordered and then declined 2) parked on the lot as a what they term a "produced vehicle" but not "ready to ship" vehicle i.e. needing a part or further "testing" (usually software issues as evidenced by the forums) and 3) finally units returned to sender for #1 or 2 above ( a rather expensive proposition) so theoretically you could get a vehicle that someone else rejected and there was no nearby SC so it goes back home. The process is clearly somewhat AFU'd
That's good to know - I only meant that when you select Normal, IL as your delivery location, you only see vehicles in the shop physically located at the Factory or expected to be at the factory. The Shop inventory is based on geographic location based on your address.

Not necessarily? My R1S was physically in Normal when I selected it in the shop. Brooklyn was my designated delivery location for my Pennsylvania address on record with Rivian...

Delivery is not perfect yet all. Had my truck a couple weeks and now they have had it back a couple weeks fixing delivery dents and issues. Hoping for it back in a week or so but their "that's a one day quick fix" on delivery day is now a month of no truck.

I've been around the block a time or two and know that a startup has growing pains but to deliver vehicles with quality issues that require return to few service centers with limited capability and capacity is extremely costly and untenable. Rivian needs to quickly adopt the "do it right the first time" moto and insure that the vehicle quality coming off the final line meets spec and customer expectations

When I selected a vehicle from the R1 Shop it actually did display the VIN. I even took a picture of my computer display just to have a record of the VIN.

Btw, I did not begin the 8 steps, other than uploading my driver's license, until a week later.

Again you don't see the VIN until PA but the shop config was definitely black mountain

I am sorry to hear that. While I am closer to factory (Cincinnati), thankfully my experience was flawless. Selected T from store, after my guide added factory address to account to speed up order process while I had a reservation. Selected T from store, 2 weeks later, drove out with my son to BMI to return rental. Tour guide picked us up in limestone S.

Tour was cool. Pickup was smooth. Vehicle was correct. And off we went.

two hiccups: Avis reservation for rental was not available, so scrambled to get one way rental same day. Second: LTE didn’t work, but Bluetooth and Wi-Fi did. Fixed with single day SC appt 3 weeks later.

The plant tour was great but with several decades working in and consulting with several auto manufacturers in several assembly plants Rivian has many opportunities lets say and with 7000+ employees and hiring will not make a dime at 100K/vehicle with current systems and methods......but that's another topic that i could write a book on.
Sorry to hear about your troubles, they should be able to make things right very quickly.. they make the vehicles!

Your opinion above about their plant ops is the most troubling part for me though. Pricing the R1 vehicles at $100K is never going to happen (and it shouldn't) especially considering Ford's recent price cuts on the Lightning and the soon to be revealed CT pricing from Tesla. Rivian desperately needs to get their manufacturing QC up and costs under control ASAP!l

I would love a few bullet points on some of the issues you saw at the plant if you have the time...

Sorry about this mix up for you. Very frustrating and disappointing especially with your planned travels.

FWIW - I saw the VIN immediately after my Shop selection a year ago for my R1T and more recently a month ago when my Guide picked an R1S out of the Shop before I actually had access.

I’m not sure what happened in your situation; however, I imagine that’ll make it right.

Good luck!

Don't worry Brooklyn isn't much better. You get a dirty R1S and a guy scratching it with a microfiber towel in front of me during delivery. I drive it down the street and rattles like a spray paint can in the dash and driver door B pillar. No worries put in a ticket and they say cool we'll see you in a month to address the issues?!?! It's so annoying I have to stuff Gear Guard Gary under the windshield to pin down the speaker grill that was apparently never fitted right. They scratched the frunk plastic pretty good, have to replace that too. Rear tailgate is way off and needs to be fixed. Steering wheel creeks as well.

I guess I got the truck so that's better than nothing but I don't believe for a second it was ever really test driven at all. Just not a good experience waiting that long, paying that much and then we'll see you in a month to address the bunch of issues we should've fixed prior.

My guide was meh at best and had me scrambling with insurance last minute because they didn't catch a technicality that would've prevented delivery.

I have a feeling I'm going to be visiting Brooklyn often and I'm certainly not looking forward to it at all.
