I have a weak WiFI signal in the garage and my cell phone has issues connecting.

So I got an extender and now get a very strong signal on the phone with both 2.4 and 5GHz but the truck still only sees the same number of access points and devices from the neighbors.

My access point is using WPA/WPA2, no spaces or funny characters in the password or SSID.

I tried turning off WiFi on the truck and even rebooting the UI but it still just shows me like 10 SSIDs that are not mine.

I got a new matching WiFi router with the extender and they both support mesh but I just wanted to see the extender work before setting everything else up. It's such a drag replacing a WiFi router with 20 something devices that will need to be reconnected.

TP-Link AX3000 WiFi 6 Range Extender
TP-Link AXE5400 Tri-Band WiFi 6E Router

If you are going to use a Mesh setup, can you still use the Gigabit Ethernet Port on the extender or is it a WiFi only thing?

Was hoping the Mesh setup would let me have one SSID. The current WiFI router has some kind of setting for that but with it on some of the device in the house will not connect.

If you replace your router and use the same SSID (case sensitive) and password your wireless devices should all just connect.

At least it has always worked for me.

That sounds right. I guess I'm remembering when I had to come up with new SSIDs to break up the two different frequencies.

I tried checking again after I drive and still no dice. It refused to see my AP or my extender while seeing several of the neighbors devices.

I ended up changing the routers security to WAP2 & 3 versus 1 and 2. I forget which one of my devices doesn't support WAP2. Anyway, outside of the garage it was able to finally connect to the router 2.4 GHz only and not the extender. Does the truck not support 5 GHz?

I had an issue where my truck just would refuse to connect to any WiFi and an infotainment reset fixed. I would try that before you do anything drastic. Page 220 of the manual.

As I said, I did reboot the UI. Are you thinking that the "RESTART THE VEHICLE" on page 221 would help. I guess it would not hurt to try. I just wish I knew what setting it liked so much about everyone else's routers.

FYI each extender will cut the bandwidth of any devices connected through it in half. But you prolly already knew that.

I've seen some discussions about that. I wasn't sure about the mesh extenders having the same issue, especially if you use the one ethernet port on the extender for a backhaul connection to the network. I would have thought then all the wireless connectivity to the extender would be unique to it and have full bandwidth. I'm just trying to get the garage to have full coverage and that would just be my phone on occasion and a couple of cars.

So far only changing the security to WAP2/3 works. No security doesn't work and 1/2 or just 3 don't work.

And that's only to the router. The truck continues to ignore the extenders. It can connect to the 5G after setting overnight but it shows zero bars and it can connect to the 2.4G fairly well. I just don't understand why it's ignoring the extenders. My phone sees them just fine.

It looks like with my D-Link router it only likes security set to WAP2/3.

After setting the router to WAP2/3 and then resetting the extender. It saw the extender but would not connect.
