What do the email headers look like? is the reply-to email actually a rivian one? Did it come from a rivian email? Is the IP address in some weird country? etc.
Yeah, it’s a customer service at Rivian email. I have a meeting set with my guide on Monday to discuss this. To make matters even weirder all of my meetings with my guide and other Rivian members have been through Calendly and this email is using a link through Microsoft teams booking and his photo is a picture of him taking a selfie with a Rivian building in the background. This whole thing is just odd.

Make sure the process happens through the Rivian website. Don't submit any of your personal info through some other channel.

People change their mind or can't qualify for a loan when it comes time to buy. There are many reasons a car ends up in the shop. As others stated, they all came from Normal. That's how I got mine faster though because they had one close to what I wanted.

This happened to me as well. There are sales folks who work to pair order holders with unfulfilled or unclaimed vehicles coming off the production line. They're not shop vehicles, they're new vehicles that match your config that they can put you in much sooner than your current delivery estimate.

While the email looks sloppy, give them a call back tomorrow and chat with them. I'm positive it's a new vehicle (probably not even through final QC yet) and they can just assign it to you if you want it . That's how I got my R1S earlier than expecte
I just spoke with my Guide and these ARE vehicles they are trying to push out from the R1Shop.

If the shop stated why the vehicle was in the shop it would be a different story. But a lot of people reject them upon delivery for paint defects and body issues. I’m not willing to pay full price 98k+ for a vehicle that while I’m sure the issues was fixed but just the principal that it has already had a fix to it is not something I‘m willing to risk.
Where exactly are you finding this information at? It’s not based in fact, that’s for sure. You could find just as many examples on this forum of people whose Shop ordered trucks were still in production on the line when selected as those who refused delivery for paint issues.

I just talked to my guide. It's not a big deal but these are not from the production line. They are in fact from the R1shop.

And they just magically appear in a digital shop database without going down the same production line as everything else? You’re reading way too much into what constitutes a “shop” truck vs a “production line” truck. Not really a problem of course, it’s your money, decision and wait time but it’s not based on any real facts or data.

Haha wow people in this forum sure are not that friendly. I just don’t want a shop vehicle. That fact that there is a chance that the vehicle is in there because it was rejected upon delivery day even if that’s a 5% chance because lets say maybe the paint had an issue and although it might have been fixed or what ever it might have been that was the issue why it was rejected, I don’t want that. Not at this price point, if I can just wait which I said I can.

You'd be surprised how much damage a traditional dealership will repair during PDI and they never tell you about.

I confirmed my order from the shop on January 31st and picked up my R1S on March 6th. I am very happy with how everything went.
I dont have much to say about the email and voice message. I just want to point out that not all cars in the shop are already manufactured and waiting for the buyer.
I found my R1S in the shop. I confirmed the order after I made sure that it is 2024 model (By the way you can tell by the vin if it is 2024). My vin number has a manufacturing date that is 3 weeks after I confirmed the order.
So don't hesitate to pick up something from the shop.

I empathize with the OP, @FormulaR1T, who wants what he wants and is getting unsolicited advice that he should want something different.

Our Shop experience was good. That's the only thing I can contribute here.

***

We bought from the shop, choosing the vehicle in late January 2024 and taking delivery 2024-02-16. I asked our guide if this had been rejected at delivery by any other buyer. He said no.

Our R1S had 10 miles on the odometer when delivered. Fit and finish are impeccable -- best I've ever owned. While it's too early to be sure, our one initial vehicle problem seems to have resolved with a vehicle reset. (The service person at 888-RIVIAN-1 talked me through that, as well as a frunk closure problem a few days ago.)

Because we ordered through the shop, our R1S was available a week later when family circumstances needed the R1's range and hauling ability. If we'd waited for the original build, we wouldn't have had the comfort of this ultra-versatile vehicle.

***

PERSONALLY, especially based on my experience, I wouldn't be scared of a vehicle from the Shop. I would ask my guide if this was a customer reject, and I would trust the answer.

However, I would encourage @FormulaR1T: "You do you! Enjoy your Rivian whenever you get it!"
