Oh, What a Deal

Which one of these options did you change to after pricegate to get more value?

Unfortunately after adding Max pack to survey options, I can not take it off. That is what I get for avoiding thinking at all cost.
I’m confused by the confusion. Max Pack cost $10,000 before March 1. After March 1 it costs $16,000. Therefore, some people may switch to Max to get a 16K battery pack for 10k. What am I missing?

I see where they're coming from. The $6k was to go from Standard to Large. The $10k from Large to Max didn't change, even though the net change is still $6k more from the base price.

I'm I correct in thinking the tonneau cover has been removed from the Adventure pkg? There is a $1500 drop in the price for the Adventure pkg and the powered tonneau is $1500. Frankly, I'm very happy about this. I've got no problem with dropping the tonneau.

I changed from silver->white and added a spare (road).

I added the spare because the description says it comes with "everything you need to change the tire" so if that includes jack, jack stand, socket, rim, and tire that feels "worth it." Not really related to price change but more because I reviewed the order after the price change and noted that it's more than just rim+tire.

White I was on the fence about and the price change tipped the scale to it being an upgrade.

Everything else I left the same, I don't plan on reselling so don't need to try and arbitrage the order.

Battery: It was a $10k upgrade before (from Large) and it's still a $10k upgrade now (from Large). No difference. Also won't be using this truck for long distance travel, it won't have the network to do that well in the short term. (We have done lots of towing 3000lbs camper in a Tesla Model Y around Texas, so do have some experience here including "longer 600" mile trips). We'll use it to travel ~100 mile trips (200 mi round trip). They both have roughly the same rated range, but I suspect that the impact will be less on the R1T due to it's size and less efficient to start with (from a Wh/mi perspective).

Tires: I've left default Road tires, I'm assuming these will give the best mileage (but would love to know otherwise).

Camp kitchen: personally, I would rather have a portable slide out workshop with tools/drawers/electrical hookup, fold out table / bench. For cooking/eating I'de rather have a portable cookware than built in.

Tent: We are a family of 4, so too small.

Charger: Already have Tesla HPWC so an adapter is cheaper (and also gives option of using Tesla L2 destination chargers).

No changes yet. We might change color and interior once we see them, but those changes won’t be for the “discount”.

The only wild card here is that the R1T Adventure, upon losing the power tonneau, is only $1200 more than the Explore R1S with tow hooks I have reserved. I suppose that situation only exists because of the pricing fiasco and options updates.

I have been flip flopping between the two myself but so far reservation has stayed on R1S mainly due to shorter overall length, more usable interior space and longer roof for my Kayak. To me it looks a little better too.

On price difference, it is not big enough to ignore your main use for the vehicle. and it may be more than $1,200; Will you get a Tonneau cover for R1T? R1S does not need it. Will you get a spare for R1T? depending on your wheel, that could be more expensive in R1T.

But if you tow something heavier than 7,700 lb, off road a lot and need a full size spare or regularly move around 7 people, the price difference won't mater as much.

For me Scale still tipped toward R1S. I will probably keep my 18 year old ICE truck as long as it runs and then replace it with a trailer that R1S will pull.

The only thing I'm changing as of now is going Adventure from Explore - other than changing color (no price difference) from limestone to forest green - limestone in real life is not what the configurator shows or the initial photo-shopped color reveal showed.

All very good points. Several of them are what I’ve been weighing heavily in our decision. I actually did not want the tonneau, so it becoming optional is appealing. I prefer camper shells or open truck beds.

Having a full size matching wheel is another win for the R1T, and is a big negative on my R1S pro/con list.

The appeal of the R1S has been purely the conditioned cargo area for the dog and smaller size for my copilot. We’d like to simplify our driveway, so it’s critical for my wife to be comfortable driving whatever we buy.

She doesn’t know it, but the decision is ultimately going to be hers to make. Test drives cannot come soon enough!

I learned that the hard way. I took her on a test drive for a sport car. She kept saying, it is your car, you need to be happy with it. I bought it and it has been eating dust on my driveway most of it's life because it is too low, too fast and ride is too bumpy for her. On top of that she does not drive stick shift and has no interest in learning. So I am getting better in mind reading for my next purchase.

It didn't make much difference to me. I did change to the OC, but that has been something I've changed a few times. I like the light color and more open feel, but occasionally worry about dirt and then change to Black Mountain. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna keep it Limestone and Ocean Coast for the final go. The bigger thoughts for me are the reinforced bottom and the tonneau cover.

I've always had the reinforced bottom, but deleted that as I will do a bit of mud driving, but no real rock crawling. The cover is tougher. I like it. It looks great. Right now I'm keeping the powered cover....but it is always a concern as a failure point. That said, I'm a 10-12, 2022 delivery window, so they might have nice powerful motors by then.
