To @UnsungZero_OldTimeAdMan's adapter recommendations I would add the original TeslaTap people in California. Their URL (not intuitive) is https://www.umc-j1772.com/ ,.

TeslaTap has also been reliable, with complete integrity and solid engineering. They stand by their products too. Expensive, but worth it in my opinion....

Best to all -- and, @Hauser37, enjoy your Rivian!
In case OP (and other readers) isn't aware...

Said TeslaTap adapter is for level 2 AC charging. It's a NACS to J1772 adapter; adapts NACS charging plug to a J1772 charging port. This and similar ones (like A2Z's Stellar) would be needed only if:
  • OP has installed at home a charger that has only the NACS plug and OP has a J1772 equipped R1 (MY25 and prior)
  • OP is staying at a hotel or vacation rental that has chargers with only NACS plug and OP has a J1772 equipped R1 (MY25 and prior)
  • OP is road-tripping somewhere and the only available charging opportunity is a level 2 NACS charger (i.e. Tesla Destination), and OP has a J1772 equipped R1 (MY25 and prior)
If OP is getting a MY26 R1, it will be equipped with a NACS charging port. For level 2 AC charging with a J1772 plugged charger, they'd need a J1772 to NACS AC adapter... which Rivian is providing for free with vehicle purchase (until they end that program). This adapter is also in the Gear Shop.

Correct for TeslaTap's (and everyone else's) Level 2 product, @UnsungZero_OldTimeAdMan, but not everyone knows that TeslaTap also has a DCFC adapter, which they call "SuperTap" (https://www.teslatapinc.com/).

I would have similar confidence in TeslaTap's new DC product as I do in their traditional AC product. As you state, though, AC adapters and DC adapters are used in different situations. Neither one is a substitute for the other.

In each of our 2023 Rivians, we carry both a Level 2 TeslaTap NACS-to-J1772 AC adapter and a Rivian DCFC NACS-to-CCS1 DC adapter. If an adapter gets us out of a jam, even once, it's paid for itself.

As you state, @UnsungZero_OldTimeAdMan, a different suite of adapters will be needed to serve the NACS port in Rivian's 2026 models.

Thanks and best wishes!

For sure. Whatever port one has, best to carry all of the adapters one might need in order to access all possible charging opportunities. Until everyone standardizes to one format, we will be living in a world of adapters—which isn't all that difficult in use, but some just can't see past the mental hurdle.

I am reading that I should get the Rivian wall charger even though I have a Nema 14-50 in my garage and that they may not provide mobile service if something goes wrong? Have even heard if your 12V battery does they will not replace it unless this charger?

The requirement/recommendation to have the Rivian wall charger is BS. Electrons don't have preference on which brand charger they flow through. And technically the charger is built-in to your car. The wall charger is just a power supply. The only advantage the Rivian one has is software integration through the Rivian mobile app. Rivian service/support staff might nudge you towards theirs for a sale and it—being their product—could simplify diagnosis of charging problems. If you were using a non-Rivian charger, they have no access to its back-end to see if charging problems could be attributed to it.

Mentioned this in my original post, no idea why it was deleted... But the most often recommended home AC charger is the Tesla Universal Wall Connector. So far it is the one that has both native NACS and J1772 plugs built in. Making it most future-proof, since the car industry [in the US] is at the start of a migration from J1772 to NACS. See State of Charge channel's review of it below, as well as his other recommendations.

I have running boards. My wife likes them so I like them. Even with kneel it is much easier to climb aboard for shorter people.

I would not own a truck without crossbars, either on the roof or on the bed (depending on your use case).

All my trucks have had a tonneau of one kind or another. My R1T did not come with one, so I got the cheap vinyl rolling one. Easy enough to roll up and deploy, keeps leaves and water out and prevents idiots from dropping trash in the bed.

I got a toolbox that rolls out of the tunnel from ev sport line and love the thing.
