Rivian G2 hardware suite has huge room to grow just by software updates. Refinements to UHF to reach what Tesla is capable of today will take at least a year if not two. From ‘glorified cruise control‘ to ‘point to point’ there’s huge learning curve! By that time G3 will be ready for mass adoption on path to surpass anybody else in North America. Hope this is Rivian’s plan.

Just remember that as soon as the G3 platform is out all updates to the prior generation will stop. Look at the G1 to G2. Is the G1 capable of more, yes but Rivian has intentionally kneecapped it. I would be extremely weary of getting any major update to the G2 platform from this point forward. Even questionable on some of the features they promised.

Also, most if not all the people with reservations for an R2 are not the average buyer. Maybe 10% are oblivious and just like the brand.
 I hope you decline all future updates.

What are you talking about... maybe you can't read?

As soon as the G2 came out all updates to the G1 related to autonomy stopped. We all know the G1 can do 90% of what the G2 can but Rivian chose to stop updating it. Why do you think the G2 would be any different when G3 comes out? We clearly have seen a past track record and it does not bode well for any prior tech with Rivian..

Interesting. I figured it would launch with gen 3 hardware but no lidar. So you don't think it will get ANY of the hardware they spoke of at AI day (AI chip etc.) until later in the year when lidar is added?
Yes, that's how see it. I think it was a bit odd to present that stuff so far out from the expected ship date and cause the confusion they did around the R2 release date and what's coming when.
