Anyone else experienced issues with the truck not detecting your phone-as-a-key once you're inside the truck? The very phone I used to unlock the truck moments before climbing in is undetected. I've had this happen twice now with no rhyme or reason. I do not use proximity unlock, always explicitly unlocking the truck from the app. I tried closing the app and turning off and on bluetooth. That didn't help. Each time this has happened I had to run inside to grab the actual fob to get going anywhere.

If you have experienced this, have you found a way to force the truck to recognize your phone? I haven't tried doing a soft reset when I encounter this issue because I'm typically in a hurry. A quick fix would be really helpful.

When I had this happen, toggling BT on/off on phone would work

Interesting. Do you have an iPhone or Android? I used the iOS control center to "turn off" bluetooth, but now that I think about it that doesn't really turn it off completely. It just disconnects the current connections. I may try going into the Settings app on the phone next time and actually turning it off.

I was able to fix all of my PAAK issues by unpairing/forgetting all of my other BT devices on my phone, performing a hard reset on phone, pairing the phone back as a key, and then pairing my other devices back.

Could all have been a coincidence but my AirPods seemed to be the culprit but everything works fine now with them paired after the fact.

Before fixing it, I noticed that the only time PAAK worked with my phone was when I was using my AirPods.

I have iPhone but turned off BT from Settings rather than control center.

The BT toggle on/off was just a quick fix to get the vehicle in drive when it wasn’t recognizing key within the vehicle even though I just manually unlocked vehicle with my phone.

Similar story here. I was having PAAK unlock issues with my iPhone 13 Pro. Deleted the phone key in the app, “forgot” all the rivian devices in the phone’s BT menu, and re-added the phone key in the Rivian App. Seems to have fixed it up.

Try deleting your phone as a key and then re pair it on the dash. That worked for me, anyhow. On another note.... something strange I have been noticing relating to BT - every morning I go out through my garage for my run. I usually sit next to my truck and get my shoes and air pods / beats on. Any time the proximity detection for the R1T recognizes my phone, it pauses the music on my phone. Then I'll get on my way down the street running, the R1T proximity locks the vehicle, and pauses my music again. I don't know if this is typical BT behavior, but I don't know of any other bluetooth devices that actively do that. Maybe that behavior is tied to some of the BT issues other people, like myself, have been reporting. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

This happened to me once. Doing a swipe-up-to-kill of the Rivian app on my phone and re-launching it fixed the problem for me.

It’s probably pausing when your phone’s audio is pairing with Rivian Audio (turned on when phone unlocks vehicle) and then pausing again when unpairing. Just a guess

Late addition, here

I had a pixel 4a and the PaaK worked more-or-less "okay."

But then it started doing exactly this. I use proximity unlock, it unlocks as I approach the vehicle, the audio pairs and starts playing, and then it prompts me to present a key to drive.

Then I got a new phone - pixel 6 pro - and it still does it.

The Rivian was the first thing I paired with the new phone. New phone, fresh phone key setup.

I tried deleting all the BT connections, deleted key, re-paired, and it still does it

The only thing I've found that works is to toggle my phone's BT on/off.

Has no one found a consistent and permanent fix?

I feel insane but I swear it has something to do with my BT ear buds I use while working, but it's far from consistent behavior. I can't seem to find a pattern but I feel like it only started with my ear bud usage.

I've seen the opposite. If I unlock the truck with my phone (at least manually, I don't know if proximity does this because I'm at my house) I can get in the truck and drive away, leaving my phone outside of it.

@Anyone else here does it let you do this too? Almost seems like an invitation to just steal the car and I'm not a fan of that. Every car I've driven with proximity keys expects them to be in the car before you start/set off.

Edit: I did some more testing with it and this issue requires the car to have been driving before, it seemed to work correctly on initial startup but if you stop the truck, put your phone outside you can continue onward for some distance (though I didn't go too far to find out.) I see this potentially as a problem when you park the vehicle and get out, not when you're walking back to it to start driving again.

After the much delayed September update for the Pixel 6 Pro on Verizon yesterday, PaaK seems to be working flawlessly for me. The Android update specifically mentioned Bluetooth fixes FWIW.

Slightly OT. Paak was working reasonably well this past week after latest OTA, but yesterday phone seemingly “unpaired” for no reason. Thankfully still living the fob life so had it for backup.

Had to delete Rivian from BT then re-pair. Seems OK but still not confident in Paak only.

My AirPod Pros were the culprit in my case so you’re not insane.

I was able to overcome the issue by forgetting/deleting all of my BT devices (including the AirPods and Rivian connections) and then pairing PAAK from scratch. After confirming PAAK worked, I was able to re-pair by AirPods and PAAK now works perfectly.

I'm my case I already did that by way of a whole new phone. And then did it again on the new phone.

This has stretched across two phones for me.

Here's hoping an update fixes something!
