I am about to place my 225 Gallon Cistern in my R1T. That is about 1800 Gallons which the Tacomas I have owned handled easily. 1800 pounds is a little more then what the spec sheet is the maximum on an R1T with the ax Battery Pack. Today I will just fill the cistern half way to see how it handles. My question is where do set the height on the Truck? Low, Medium or High? My instinct says high. I opened a chat on the Rivian web site and their answer was Medium. Anyone have experience? TO be clear... the cistern will ride in the bed. This is not a towing question.

Thank you , and so I will........ and I just noticed I wrote- "225 gallons is about 1800 gallons! Of course, I meant to write 1800 pounds.

You’ll be a couple hundred pounds over payload but the truck will level itself and handle it fine. It will be better than the Tacoma by far. On the Tacoma that full cistern would have been 6-900 pounds over payload and without the benefit of self leveling suspension.

Thanks! I carried that payload in the Tacoma often, albeit not far. It is something I would rather not do, and I hope to solve the water issue on our mountain in ways that will prevent this necessity.

I silently was looking forward to seeing the video of you crushing the T with an 1800 gallon (7.5 ton) load in the bed. But if a Tacoma could do it, why not the T.

Don't forget that the weight of the driver and any passengers is included in the payload. So if there were 4 adults in the vehicle you would need to subtract 600-800lbs from the rating when filling up the tank. If it is just the driver then you will only be 200'ish over with a full tank, but if the other seats are occupied then you are a little more than a little over.

But to answer your question, I use all purpose/standard when moving heavy things.

I don't know how much these 60 bags of mulch weighed, but if they were 30 lbs a bag that was 1800 lbs, not including the pallet. You can see when I had them loaded the rear sagged. But when I started the truck it leveled out as you can see with the shot I took when I got home.

I think you should be fine filling the cistern, but if the path to your place is rough, it is probably more risky than the smooth roads I went on.

I had it in All Purpose, Standard height.

Will handle it fine, but now Rivian has a right to deny a repair related to overloading.

We have water delivery at our cabin and it's gone to $200 for 1500 gallons. There's only one guy and he knows it. One of my neighbors has a full size truck for a tote and a second one on a trailer. Fills them up at home for pennies.
