I left the car at the airport for an overnight trip.. it had had 219 miles left yesterday noon. And 24hrs later it showed 208 miles only..

The outside temperature was about 30 degrees.. I checked the live cam few times but that's it.

Is this considered Phantom Drain or is it pretty normal?

Thanks!

Going from 219 miles to 208 (11 miles of lost range) represents about 4.4 kWh of lost battery capacity assuming an average efficiency of 2.5 kWh per mile (11 mi/2.5 kWh/mi). You don't say if your Rivian is a Gen 1 or 2, or what size its battery pack is, but assuming you have a Gen 2 with the Standard pack with an effective capacity of 92.5 kWh, your loss is roughly 4.7% over 24 hrs (4.4 kWh/92.5 kWh).

Rivian says you should expect a loss of either 1 mi per day, or 1.0 kWh per day (it's never been clear to me which represents the "official" Rivian position). In colder temps, drain increases, but I don't know by how much. Regardless, loosing nearly 5% daily seems pretty high, even in cold weather, and if it were me, I'd put in a ticket for it. I'd also check your 12v battery; if it's failing, that could help explain the drain level.

By way of history, while the parasitic drain on my Gen 1 R1T varied considerably based on OTA updates, I used to regularly see 4% or greater daily losses. At present however, I'm only seeing losses in the 1 to 2 per cent range each day. Whether this is due to the more recent OTA updates, or a new 12v battery (Rivian changed out the battery as part of a recent service even though my R1T was only six months old and I hadn't reported any issues related to the battery, other than high drain), or perhaps the combination of both, is unclear.

Every time you open the app it wakes the vehicle consuming energy… using the vehicle cameras consumes that much more… being cold outside cold soaks the battery so it will show less range than when you parked the battery warm… all these contributing factors are equal to the loss you are seeing….

I submitted a ticket through the app and received a call from Rivian within 24 hours. The rep was very professional, requested more details and was able to provide answers to all of my questions. In the end, I agreed to close the ticket and keep monitoring the situation..

A few knowledge points:
- Shipping mode would preserve more battery if that's required.
- Pulling out the Rivian APP doesn't necessarily wake up the vehicle every time. But if the app retrieves real time data, it will then wake up the vehicle.
- Tt takes about 30 min for the vehicle to go to sleep.
- When the outside temperature is very low, the vehicle will consume energy to keep electronic components "warm" (in a relative term) to prevent damage.. so an underground parking lot would be better than an open garage in winter time.
- Close by traffic (vehicles or pedestrians) can trigger the motion cam.. so more traffic around the vehicle means more energy to be consumed.

many of these items are common sense, but still share for awareness..

This is a great one to call out. Of course it depends on what you do in the app, but simply opening it it seems to only access cloud services, just like ElectraFi or similar, which have zero impact to your vehicle sleep state.
