Anyone else running into issues at Tesla chargers with Rivian plug and charge. Mine won’t charge but it does with the Tesla account . Issues at all Tesla chargers including ones I have used before with plug and charge.. Haven’t tried other networks yet.

Just recently? Perhaps check your credit card expiration in your Rivian account. Rebooting is also a good thing to try. And yes. Try it with Electrify America or one of the few other networks that support plug and charge to see if this is a network issue or an issue with your vehicle.

Thanks. I tried rebooting, deleting and re-adding credit cards. No joy.

I had issues on June 24 and 25. Updated my cc but no luck. I had to use the Tesla app to kick off the sessions.

I had the same problem yesterday in Tacoma. I needed to use Tesla app for the first time. Called Rivian support and was told that this is a known recent issue that has been occurring with Tesla chargers.

If you are charging at Supercharger often enough for this to be bothersome, you probably should enroll in their membership and pay less. And since you’re able to charge successfully using their app… enrollment solves your problem and then some.

Worth trying at RAN if possible. If p&c works there, then it’s likely a handshake problem between Tesla and Rivian (IT issue you can’t do anything about on your end, and the two parties would likely just point fingers at one another).

One thing I had happen to me when traveling. Used Tesla super charger, charge started fine, then I got in and hit the brake to power up the vehicle and then the charger would fault. But if I plugged in and got in and didn’t hit the brake, it would keep charging. Weird

I'll second this - but know with a membership you have to initiate the charge in the app (pick the charger) BEFORE you plug in. If you don't, you'll be billed by Rivian at a higher rate than you get with the membership.

if there is a known issue with a network it would be nice if Rivian would send out a notification (personally, I'd like to receive a push notification on my phone and perhaps in the vehicle itself) as this is hugely impactful to trip planning.

Currently on a road trip from Seattle to Telluride. Returning back to Seattle in a few days. Charging on the road can be a bit confusing if not using Rivian Adventure Network (Plug n Play).

Here are the lessons I’ve learned so far:

1. Joining a Monthly membership plan Is well worth it and can cover the membership fees in one charge. Between RAD, Tesla, and ElectrifyAmerica, Tesla (25% discount) has had the best rates so far. I will then cancel the membership when the trip is over.

2. Upon arriving at a non-RAD station I log into the charging station app (ElectrifyAmerica or Tesla) and perform all of the steps to start charging, EXCEPT I do not plug the charging cord into “Chief” (my R1T) until I’ve performed all the app steps including “Start Charging” has been commenced in the app. Once I put the phone back in my pocket I then plug the charging cord with the adapter into my truck and charging starts automatically.

I have found that plugging in the vehicle too soon, the charger will grab the credit card on file and just start charging at the regular non-discounted rate.

NOTE: If you leave the destination programmed in navigation, charging will automatically stop at required charge to destination plus the reserve that you programmed in for destination reserve on the center display. The only way I have found to charge more is to delete the destination on the center display. Then you can set the charge limit manually using the Rivian phone app.

NB: I subscribe to Autonomy+. Of the 1,200+ miles of the trip I had ADAS engaged about 90% of the time, even driving through the mountains. It has been a game changer for me. I arrive relaxed and am not beat up from the drive.

This is what works for me…so far. Good Luck.

If you're planning a trip where you'll need to charge at a Tesla charger more than once you really should have a Tesla membership. It's $12.99/month and you can cancel at any time. It will save you between $0.10 and $0.15 per KWH and will pay for itself as soon as you buy 80-100KWH.
