Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Are you pre or post price increase?
I was pre-increase, so I paid about 84k for my quad with Ocean Coast and 22" sport dark wheels. If I had to pay 100k-ish for that now, and the Plaid was 90k, given I lean towards performance I might choose the Tesla. But MAN does the Rivian look so much better, through and through. And it's just higher on the cool chart. I guess I'm glad the choice is already made ?

So I guess you’d be “strongly considering” if post increase

How many are cross shopping with similarly capable ICE Suv's?

If your 3rd row plan is to seat adults, then you need R1S. If not you can go for the MX

When the Count gets his Grenadier there is a chance he'll park the R1S in his long-term cold storage for a while. As most people are aware, by chance the Count means there is a 4.5% probability of swapping out the R1S for the ICE Grenadier. Which as everyone knows by now has been ordered in the Queen's Red.

I already have my R1S so none of the options apply. But as much as I love my Rivian, there is no chance I would place a new order for one Today.

The price is way too high compared to the Model X, especially when you are likely looking at a 1 yr waitlist for the R1S and you could be in an X right away.

With Rivan still being a new company with significant growing pains, there being a long wait, and having somewhat outdated tech (charging speed, charging infrastructure, infotainment, driver assistance) the large-pack R1S needs to be cheaper than the base Tesla X For Rivian to remain competitive.

Yeah I was hoping to get more input from post price increase perspective but feels like this forum is populated mostly by pre price increase folks

Most price increase are still waiting. Rivian hasn't cleared the backlog of original price orders yet. It will be interesting to see if a bunch of price increase people jump ship.

I have my eyes on the 2024 Lexus GX. Not in the same league performance wise, but looks pretty sexy. And with good towing numbers.

To be clear, the interior style and quality of the R1S is far beyond the X, which still feels spartan and IKEA by comparison. And exterior styling wise, it’s a hilarious slam dunk for the Rivian. Considering those factors plus the Rivian’s overall capability (and 3rd row utility) I think the price difference can be justified. But damn that Plaid speed… it calls to me. As does the better range, a tad.

The only vehicles comparable to the R1S in the Count's view are the ICE Grenadier and the ICE Defender.
LR Defender is only vehicle that compares with R1S. But its' not electric.

The only reason that there is any comparison is that they’re both EVs and can carry up to 7 people. But beyond that, there aren’t a lot of similarities.

If this were an ICE comparison, it’d be like comparing a Toyota Sienna (Model X) to a Toyota Sequoia (R1S).

I’m a post price reservation and waiting for the R1S dual perf max pack.

Stop being a slave to the pump.

This is what I realized when Rivian took away my ability to fill up a vehicle with fuel/energy for $15 and replaced it with a loaner v8 Jeep Wagoneer vehicle that instead needs $80 of dinosaur juice to fill up.

I’m done with spending $80 at the pump every week to put 20-25 gallons into a vehicle that gets 15 mpg - 20 mpg.

im not here trying to save the environment

I’m here trying to save my wallet and I’m done with making the Saudis rich beyond their wildest dream.

I’m here trying to fill up my Fidelity brokerage account with the money I save on gas so I can retire early instead of helping the sheikh buy his 1st soccer team, 8th mansion and 13th Bugatti.

Stop being a slave to the pump in 2023.

Voluntary oil production cuts have just been extended. You can thank Russia and Saudi Arabia for that gift that keeps on giving.

Don’t even get me started on the 50 kW charger by my house that charges me a flat penny for unlimited charging session.

I’m not here to save the environment, I’m here to save my wallet first.

I’m not a slave to anything, which is why I consider everything on its merit. If you proselytize, you’re a slave to something. I’ve had three electric vehicles, but also love my C7 Grand Sport. And plan to keep loving it in ways appropriate and inappropriate.

Oh, and I’m far more interested in saving the environment than money. So we definitely don’t align. ??
