I might get it later when I am too old and feeble to drive myself, and if it was more autonomous -- not stopping at stop signs and traffic lights is a WTF feature. And my R1T lacks Lidar, so that's a blind spot. And paying in full now means taking the risk that Rivian will still be in business and not taken over or gone bankrupt in the next five years (heck, that's a risk even for the big 3!) and still honoring the deal, or that they haven't moved on to some other hardware/software stack and no longer support the old platform (No, not Rivian!, said the Gen 1 guys). I'm generally a trusting guy, but I'm not foolish.

Then too, there is the question of how much is this feature gonna cost to support? Does it come with any guarantee or warranty? What happens when some aspect of it breaks or malfunctions? Is Rivian gonna fix it for free, whenever they can get around to it? Will they refund my payment whilst it isn't working? I'm generally a trusting guy, but I'm not foolish.

And there are still many unanswered questions about UHF, like what about emergency vehicles, road construction zones, bad weather, flooding, crazy drivers in traffic, rail road crossings, School zones, kids playing in the street, blind pedestrians, and unusual situations. Given that UHF doesn't stop at intersections, I'm gonna guess that a 15-year old with a learners permit will generally do a better job, but I'm not too keen on a teen behind the wheel of my new truck, and certainly wouldn't pay him $50/mo to chauffeur me. I'm generally a trusting guy, but I'm not foolish.

Rivian’s point to point system (not public yet) feels very basic at the moment.

I bought the launch edition, so it's already rolled into the cost. Honestly I would do monthly if I haven't.

Both lifetime Autonomy+ & Connectivity+ as a Gen2/LE. Oh and 22”wheels, BT speaker, welcome kit with a few accessories including a fob and hand warmer plus 6 months of charging with using a reference code. Oh yeah, 1,025hp. If used or not, it’s in there. Drive-on with a smile 😁

Definitely a wait and see approach for me. I love Tesla FSD, but I'm not going to pay $50 per month to be Rivian's beta tester. It's still unclear to me what they're taking away from what we have if we don't pay. I don't think they should be charging this much until point to point is available.

I likely will wait to subscribe until point to point is offered in a stable state, but once that is offered I have no problem paying. Not even considering the 2,500 since I'm on a lease and won't be purchasing (the fact that they're already talking about gen 2 getting left behind finalized my decision to not buy it).

I am hoping that the "monthly" plan can be bought for one month at a time, then cancelled, then bought again for a month when needed.
I can see using it like the Tesla charging membership, turning it on for a road trip.
Most of my driving is local / city / suburban these days.
That's how it works for Tesla, so I say 90%+ chance it works that way with Rivian. It's rare for Rivian to deviate from the base path Tesla has blazed - lidar and radar are the biggest examples.

With a Gen 1, no chance at all.

When R3 comes out, it will depend on what it's capable of at time of purchase. If they truly do have Level 4 "eyes off"? I'd probably pay the $2500.

I like the idea of the one time payment, because they can't suddenly raise the cost of it, and should theoretically raise the value of the vehicle. But I've heard that used Teslas don't tend to go for much more just because they have lifetime FSD. And I also haven't been keeping cars past what would be the 50mo break even point vs paying monthly.

Realistically, I'll probably not use it enough to make the cost worth it in either case.
The problem is that you can have all the software updates forever for a one time fee. But, if you hardware is old, you can’t use them. Think of phones and computers…. OS is free for life. Doesn’t mean much, though.

Not sure how I feel to be honest. I like the features I have now and didn't really enjoy FSD in a Tesla but maybe my feelings will change when the demo period starts.

For now, zero.
Come back and talk to me when I’m 80 and less capable. Then I’ll be interested,,, if I can afford it.

It will all depend. I look at how long it took Tesla to produce a somewhat stable FSD capability. I will say that I would will explore an incremental update to my Gen2 R1T to try it out, but until the Rivian capability is further evolved or baked in; not rushing to sign up for it. The current ADAS system is plenty for me.

We have a 2026 Tesla Model Y with the latest FSD. I am still not wholly comfortable with the software controlling as much as it does, and this is what? Version 14+? Perhaps in a "next vehicle" somewhere down the line, I would be more open to the level of autonomy.

Would be good for my wife as she struggles with night driving. Still have Gen 1 and love it, no major issues like others have had. Would do the purchase option but… Needs to be on an R1T with better battery tech, much quicker charging, and better audio (don’t need CP/AA)

Want the option of full control for pure driving enjoyment, but some extra safety for the family. Companies are running towards the AI cliff at record speeds, and this version above will probably be my last new vehicle purchase. Not that I am old, but too much freedom of genuine driving enjoyment will be stripped by Level 5. Will start fixing up older stuff again, I appreciate the tech, but not trading simple pleasures for a daily Uber ride in something I have to buy/insure/maintain, and forget me riding in something I can’t take control of.
