Anyone have any recommendations for PPF in the Houston area? I'm up north in Spring so closer is a bonus but I'm fine to drive especially if it means a good job will be done.

Thanks!

I don’t have a recommendation, but I posted a quote I got from Xpel Houston for my R1S in the thread below. This shop is close to the Houston service center. I have never gotten PPF before and reached out to this shop because of the proximity to the service center and was contemplating driving to the shop straight from the service center after delivery.

At the last meet up, @Voronbrg mentioned he got his windows tinted at Gulf Coast Auto Shield, but I don’t believe he got PPF. I am still on the fence about getting PPF, but I am definitely going to get my windows and roof tinted and most likely at Gulf Coast Auto Shield. It looks like they are pretty popular and do a lot of business. Jay mentioned last time that this shop does a lot of Teslas. I will most likely use this shop.

Gulf Coast Auto Shield does PPF, but I didn't get it done. Figured I'd use the money towards a respray years later. I haven't had good luck PPF in the past, they've always yellowed and cracked under Texas sun. I'm not sure about today's film but if they don't offer at least 10year warranty or lifetime warranty against yellowing and cracking I wouldn't bother.

American Detail. They did mine and did an awesome job. Very pleased.

Had mine done by houston PPF 2 weeks ago. William did a great job. Very detail oriented. Actually found a couple hood dents/creases that he brought to my attention. Currently waiting for response from Rivian to get that addressed.

@Longhorngirl: I've been using PPF for the last 15+ years and I highly recommend the partial front end protection package (bumper, hood, fender, lights, side view mirrors, etc.). That will cover the areas most likely to be hit by projectiles. The R1T and R1S have nearly flat front end that is guaranteed to be a magnet for hooligan rocks looking to ruin your day, and your paint.

In 15 years, I have never had PPF fail me. The PPF has taken a beating, and sometimes been pierced, but my paint has survived to see the day.

Ceramic coating on the other hand, I am on record as saying is absolutely not worth it. Like, seriously a waste of money relative to what you get from a high quality acrylic sealant and polish like this kit from Klasse that will last you a year, doesn't require any paint correction, has incredible shine, and you can run through a car wash to your heart's content.

Read the fine print on the most expensive and touted brands of ceramic coating and they will tell you that the hydrophobic properties of ceramic will only last 1-2 years max, yet you are paying 20 times more than a high quality sealant that will get you a year plus.

I’d do it. Houston highways are brutal for rock chips. Just inspect your truck thoroughly first. That way you don’t have to pay to do it twice if you find similar quality issues like I did in the paint or body work.

I’m sending mine back to William in a few weeks once my good is repaired to get mine all finished.

Thanks for the advice @SASSquatch! I am pretty sure I will get PPF now, especially with the option of getting PPF installed at the factory before delivery. I still have awhile before I get my R1S, so hopefully forum members will post pics of their R1 with PPF from the factory before I have to decide.

Glad I could help. This was posted in the Xpel thread where Tim from Xpel is answering questions about the factory install option coming in October (for R1S too) and I thought I would post it here as well.

Nice overview of how PPF works and why it's so damn cool.

I was pretty much set on Rivian Blue with Ocean Coast, but stealth LA Silver looks sooooo good and so does stealth El Cap. This just makes me question my configuration again.

Join the club! I've gone back and forth countless times. Seeing the stealth only made it worse. I'm totally with you on stealth LA Silver/El Cap. Silver having the added advantage of being a "free" color which would help offset the cost of the stealth.
