thats a reasonable argument. would be great for customers but i dont think its unreasonable to make them pay current full price for a dual if they switch.
Agreed. Rivian isn’t obligated to do so but I don’t think anyone will switch unless a discount is offered.

Correct. That's how it currently is.

I am a pre March price holder for the R1S. It is not a launch edition. I am able to change configuration to the R1T dual motor and dual motor performance with the price adjustments.

Good to know. I could, but I had heard that people who had never head the max pack couldn't get those.

They need to do the same thing for R1S.

Agreed, I have been waiting to see that as well.. everytime I ask customer service when they plan on doing this for the R1S dual motors.. they keep saying.. very soon.

I think some folks may switch if cost-neutral to them if range and delivery date are more important than 4 motors. If I could get an R1S sooner and the range is indeed higher as they claim, that might convince me to change. The four motors was the sole option when I placed my order and I didn’t really care if it could do crab walks or tank turns etc. My use case is family trips which include snow and ice in the winter and some light off-road other times so AT tires and 4WD are all I need.

I’m going to guess the OP is referring to R1S Dual Motor pricing? If so, that should be specified.

From browsing some Reddit comments, I think R1S preorders thus far have been told that switching from a Quad to Dual results in loss of pre 3/1 pricing. I guess we’ll see if that’s really the case when the configurator is updated.
Yeah, everything you just posted is for the R1T. As a price-locked pre- 3/22 person I originally had an R1T max pack configured. I can choose all these options and see my special pricing. Switching to an R1S build, the only option in my configurator up until now is the quad motor large pack. We have known for some time that we will get the dual motor and max pack options added for R1S, but did not know (and still don't know) how the pricing will work out.

I actually have it in writing (well.. e-mails) two different ways from two different people at Rivian about the pricing. One person telling me that switching a pre-3/22 order to an R1S with dual motor option will mean it will have current pricing, not special pre-order pricing as the R1T gets. Then I have another communication from a different person at Rivian only 2 days later, that tells me there will be special pricing similar to that of the R1T, but they have not finalized the actual pricing and will do so as they get closer to production.

We want to order an enhanced dual-motor R1S, possibly with max pack. Pricing for the max pack version isn't available yet for anyone, 3/22 pre-order people or otherwise. So waiting to see what happens. Also waiting to see the max pack specs and ratings... Not really impressed with what the max pack became for the R1T, but Rivian scaled it back to preserve the under-seat storage and keep the pricing from being completely insane. I think weight was also becoming a big issue, the truck is heavy enough, actually too heavy, as with the Large Pack it has roughly the same battery capacity as the F150 Lightning ER and weighs over 1000 lbs more as a smaller truck.

I am a Nov 2018 Explore quad max etc, etc. order holder and considering this configuration (quad max) was supposed to be the first to come out and the rug has been pulled out countless times I see no reason to compromise or pay more to continue to get less(hp/torque/range/offroad modes). This is unless you were referring to switching from R1T to the S.
I do appreciate that they are honoring the original order holders pricing but I am not getting what I ordered at this point in addition to being price bumped to the AP. If I had known what I do now I would have ordered the R1T in the LE (but maybe the max was not available in the LE?).
I had been holding out many years & my truck finally died @ 262K miles in time for the R1S LE that I also ordered and enjoy but it was supposed to be the R1T. I most likely would have had the R1S deposit returned.
I think Rivian may have been wise to split the difference on the original price increase, since the costs have gone up so much since then (it was in the fine print that it could happen), the part that gets me is that what was promised and what is going to be delivered is not the same or anywhere close to similar as far as range increase or delivery time frame with regards to the max pack.
Now they say they are coming out with a new configuration of quad/max in the future when that is actually what I ordered in the first place. I am just waiting for them to cancel the max pack due to lack of interest since so many have just got tired of waiting and either canceled the max or switched to the large pack.
