Think about the build process at assembly line and think about the steps required for retrofitting. You’ll come to understand why retrofitting cost more.
Agree 100% and I will wait and watch for it to drop in the gear shop and decide accordingly then

As inconvenient as the manual cover is to use, its advantage is mechanical simplicity. No motors to fail. No panels to bind and jam up. If you have to park outside, like I do, most likely have take extra care and maintenance to make sure a PTC is as debris-free as possible. So, that begs the question, is it really more convenient in overall user experience?

yup, seems like it is being discontinued. yet another deprecated product/feature of the Gen 1 R1.

This is too bad. I’m not a fan of the powered cover. It’s a needlessly complex feature that will commonly fail over 10-20 years of hard use. I feel the same about the door handles.

I’d be disappointed if some type of slide-in cover wasn’t an option (including aftermarket). The folding covers are nice, but don’t play well with the crossbars.

10-20 year? i doubt it'll last half that with hard use.

tonneau (and camp speaker) seems to be their achilles heel
