I rejected a delivery in June, after the vehicle was already sent to the SC. No issue with the vehicle, I just couldn't make the delivery window (out of country). There are a lot of reasons people reject delivery, so that would not concern me.

4 weeks after rejecting the prior match, I told my guide I was back in the country and wanted shop access again. Instead we had a phone call and he matched me to a VIN. Never any suggestion from Rivian that I would lose deposit or pre-Match pricing. So not sure what is up with that.

Not the first complaint about losing price matching and position lately so it could be a recent policy change.

I’ve found a 90% matched R1S from shop and confirmed it 2 days ago.
The given VIN is 15xxx.
I asked the detail on the car as it has July production VIN but the guide only answered “ I do not know the reason for the rejection and simply it is brand new car and passed the inspection”.
The car is currently in one of SC in CA and will be transported to SC in TX .

I also asked if we can stop the delivery process / reject the delivery.
The answer was Yes I can but $1000 and pre-order pricing will be gone. Will not be transferred to new / re-matched order.

What should I do?

I got my R1T in June and noticed a ton of issues with it. See: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/r1t-may-2023-build-my-list-of-problems.16741/

But they've since fixed basically all of them, and I'm pretty happy. It did take a couple of months to get it in to have all that fixed, and then they had it for a couple of weeks while I had to drive a rental. And there are still a few minor rattles that I'm having fixed in a couple more weeks.

But it's pretty much good now. Some body panel alignment still not quire perfect, but it's ok.

If I were you, I'd just make a good checklist of things to check when you're doing your pickup (my post above might be a good start.) Tell them anything you find and get service tickets opened right there before you even drive off the lot.

If you notice anything really bad, you can ask about refusing it, but that might involve some hassle, because by the time you're there to pickup, you've either paid cash or had your financing pay, and you don't know how soon you'd get an alternative vehicle. If you needed a refund, you'll be waiting weeks or more to get it.

For me, I was mostly anxious about what they would actually fix. Especially the damage to the rear bumper that was probably done in transport from the factory, but I didn't notice until several days later. But they fixed it all without giving me any grief about it.

I wouldn't worry about a July VIN...unless it was July 2022. If you reject it (refuse to accept delivery) you should not lose your pricing or deposit. If you accept delivery and then return it....you will lose your pre march 2022 pricing. Make sure you thoroughly inspect the vehicle before you accept delivery in the app.

Who cares about the production date? You know how many vehicles are sitting in dealer lots from a long time ago, or have been stuck at the factory due to issues and then shipped to dealers once resolved. This is not uncommon. No reason to reject a vehicle. You have a warranty that is generous.

If the last three digits are 560, they told me it was damaged in transit and would need to be repaired (not sure what color or which CA SC you’re referring to).

I just got matched with a vehicle from the shop as well. Do the last digits of the VIN indicate build date?

Seems awfully suspicious with all the threads about Rivian trying to dump all those 2022 year cars lately. So people didn't want a new car with an almost two year old model year and all of a sudden Rivian has a new policy on losing your deposit on an unmatched vehicle. Thing is though even if this is the case I'm not sure Rivian is really in the wrong here. They are selling a car that meets the legal definition of new in all of these cases with the full warranty that the new car comes with.

Legally they probably can't keep the deposits but not honoring preorder pricing, I could see them doing that while still acting in good faith.

The last digits of VIN are 89X in RC color. My guide did not share the actual CS location in CA where the car has been delivered / preformed the inspection..
As long as this car has not been involved any physical repair like re-paint / body work, I will accept the delivery.
A honest explanation on the rejection will make them more trustworthy but they don’t for some reasons.

If anyone has rejected and share the reason and VIN here as DP would be very helpful to fellow members.

However, If I con be reverted to R1 shop access status, I would not pick one from there. Instead, wait for the assigned matching VIN from IL factory.

BTW, where can we find the new policy on keeping the deposit and pre-order pricing?
I’ve asked RIVIAN CS but suggested to ask my guide for the detail. Sounds like the guide’s own discretion.

They do not but you can pretty much figure it out based on model and vin. What is the vin? Is it an R1T or R1S?

Two cars I would take came and went this AM. No answers from guide or the guides on call.

I might just give up on the shop.
