R1 Update. Remember those?

I'm happy that Rivian does lots of testing before releasing major updates.

In three years of R1S ownership, I recall only one update that had an issue that affected a lot of people - and they stopped the rollout immediately while it was fixed. There's a reason they roll out updates in waves.

Yes - there are individuals who are negatively impacted each update and anyone with a problem isn't shy about posting their issues here (usually in a positive way like "has anyone else seen..."), but for the most part, each update either fixes issues (most of which I don't seem to have) or provides new functionality (like being able to switch from All Purpose to Conserve without disengaging Driver Assist). I'll continue to look forward to the updates as long as they keep coming.

I've had more issues with my computer following a Windows update than I've ever had with our Rivian after an update to it.

Could be coincidence or not - but I was having really poor results with UWB and PAAK under 2026.15.

I just got 2026.15.30 this week (76 days later!) and noticing near instant response from PAAK the last few days. Even at home when sleeping, it responds much quicker. It's not in the release notes but nothing else changed.

edit - well, I'm a liar. I also did the iOS 26.6 upgrade last week so... who knows, but I'll take my wins.

I honestly don't understand comments like this. My air vents are perfectly aimed, and I never have to touch them. Ever. As in I set them once when I got the car four years ago and that's where they are still. That's hasn't been true of any other car I've ever owned. Especially the ones with mechanical vents where I always have to re-adjust because someone else changed the directions or because I bumped them while getting in/out.

Maybe I'm just weird and normal people like to change the vents frequently. But then why complain about having to change the vents?

If you don't want to use the touchscreen, learn to use the Rivian Assistant to change the vents.

You might be one of the lucky few… the center vents in the ’23 T are constitutionally incapable of staying where I put them - even after tapping ‘SAVE PRESET” hundreds of times. The side vents (for the most part) do OK. This has persisted through multiple resets. I doubt RA could put the vents where I want them - but I’ll give that a try.

I would be totally happy with mechanical vents. Also a mechanical slide lever for “fresh or recirculate”. The truck defaults to recirculate - and will switch back to that even after I set it to fresh.

I did ask the SC to flash the module that controls vent operation - not sure they ever got around to that - don’t see it on the invoice.

Fan speed controls need to be ever present on the display - just like the temp controls.

You might be one of the lucky few

Maybe ... however I've had my Gen 1 R1T for more than 4 years now and:

• My charging pad works just fine, and I use it every time I drive.
• My powered tonneau cover works just fine I use it almost every day.
• My two (2) 12V batteries are still original and still test good after 4 years/40k miles.
• My HVAC is great.
• My windshield is all original with no nicks, even after taking many hits that made me cringe.
• My tires (20") are not loud.
• My tires still have ample tread (7/32 all around) after 40k miles.
• My brake pads have essentially 0 wear.
• My efficiency and range are consistent with the EPA numbers.

What else do people complain about? Whatever it is, mine works.

That leads me to believe that each of these problems happens to only a small minority of owners. If any one of these problems affects a majority of owners, or even a large minority of owners, then the odds that I have none of these problems are improbably low. And I know I'm not the only one because other people have posted similar things, but people don't tend to post when everything works right, so the impression you might get from reading the forum is heavily biased towards problems.

I'm not saying the problems don't exist, just that they're not as widespread as people believe and that some of them (not all) have a user component to them - either usage pattern or expectations - that leads to perceived problems with the vehicle.

Be careful what you wish for. That OS change might be more than many want, can handle.
