R1S compact spare now available for order.

I have been on some sketchy forest roads in Washington state's mountains, lots of fun. I worried about flats while out there, especially sidewall damage, which might be too much for the repair kit to handle. I like piece of mind and redundant safety.

I got the compact spare installed a few days ago. It took less than 20 minutes. He unhooked the liners, removed a half of the very bottom one and replaced it a new half that had a cut out where the bracket could connect.

I will likely never need to use it. The service technician even told me that the repair goo works really well. But if that fails, the compact spare is a great option.

I did not know I could get my early reservation holder pricing. I will need to call and see about a refund.

I have a 2016 Model S. Over the 7+ years of use, I have experienced three flats, with one immediate and requiring changing roadside. Whenever I travel out of town, I carry full-size spare and compact floor jack.

I never thought about the importance of torque wrench until mobile service technician used one while rotating my tires during annual service. He stated that over tightening can damage the brakes. For that reason, I also carry torque wrench (a big one that can handle the required torque). Rivian R1S torque: 140 ft-lbs. Tesla Model S: 129 ft-lbs.

The ability to carry a compact spare in a subfloor space is WONDERFUL and I admire Rivian for finding such an innovative spare to fit into the space.

Got mine installed 3 weeks ago when they came out for mobile service, just added it to an existing ticket.

Not sure about the pricing but I got charged $398 for it. Well worth the piece of mind, IMO.

Tech forgot to install the new payload sticker, so I guess I have the world's highest payload R1S, now.

You need to call 855-RIVIAN5 to order. The list price is $778 but they will price match to $450 for pre-March 1st preorders. I had switched my pre-order from an R1T to an R1S but that was not flagged in their system.

It's only available with mobile service installation with a variable fee. My total cost with tax and mobile service was around $490. I was able to get an appointment about 2 weeks from now.

Hi @vandy1981 thanks for the post. I just took delivery of my R1S. It was a pre-March 1st order (at the original pricing) but it wasn't configured with a spare. So I just arranged a service ticket for the spare and they're quoting $755. Even though I didn't have it in my original configuration you think they'll honor the original pricing for around $490?

Update... I just called them and yes they made the price adjustment. Very good service!
