TL;DR: Configured an R1S and was offered a chance to change color and wheels for an immediate delivery in Bellevue, close to my Seattle location. After agreeing to a price increase and completing payment, expecting delivery in 1-2 days, I was informed the vehicle would arrive in ~15 days, with an estimated delivery date to follow. Felt pressured and misled after the terms changed post-payment. VIN in the 22XXX range, build date 9/28.
Posting this rant mostly as an outlet to blow off some steam.
I was invited in October to configure my R1S and after I did I reached out to customer support to tell them that I could pick up in Normal, IL if that would have an impact on delivery.
A few days later, someone from the sales team reached out to tell me that customer support put a note in my profile and that he found a similar configuration for immediate delivery in Bellevue (I’m based in Seattle, this is the closest to me) but I had to change color and wheels.
The price went up a few thousand for the new paint and wheels, still something I like and a good tradeoff for immediate delivery.
I was told by the sales person that if I completed all the steps I could get delivery in 1-2 days. As soon as I completed the steps and payment (without a loan), and I mean right after during the phone call, my Guide told me that the R1S is set to arrive in ~15 days and then we can get an estimated delivery date.
My frustration is not from the long wait (we have been waiting for a while) but getting the expectation of immediate delivery and changing that immediately after payment to 15+ days to get the estimate.
Now the money is on their side, which I know Rivian doesn’t need to park anyone’s money and doesn’t benefit from it, but it sucks I felt pressured to complete the transaction under incorrect data (intentional or not).
I know we're usually told to wait on paying until we've got a delivery date locked in, but I was given the green light over the phone that it was all set for a quick delivery. Has anyone else been in a similar boat with delivery dates moving around after you've already paid? How'd you deal with it?
