I recently used a 3M bug cleaner on my R1S windshield (enzyme based and ammonia free) and it left streaks and residue marks that appear to be permanent. This pretty much covers my entire windshield now.

I read reviews of people using this on their windshields and had zero problem. Since I have this issue, I’m concerned that this product may have damaged some type of coating Rivian applied to the windshield.

Below is the product I used, does anyone have any thoughts on what happened, and if there are any DIY ways for me to fix it?

I’m not familiar with the ingredients listed on the bottle, but I would be surprised if it did permanent damage. You could call 3M the manufacturer and tell them what happened - there might be a way to ”remove” the streaks. Or you could try using a clay bar on it. I bet that would clear it up.

Try a clay bar for detailing cars - mix a little bit of car shampoo in a spray bottle full of water; spray that mixture on the windshield as you use the clay bar on it.

That product and company have nothing to do with 3M - just so we are all clear about that.

Might be time to polish your whole windshield.

Good point. I should have caught that in the photos. Post corrected.

I would be surprised if a little rubbing alcohol or ammonia based windex wouldn’t remove it. What have you tried?

Edit: here is the first ingredient…
———————
Sodium metasilicate is the chemical substance with formula Na2SiO3, which is the main component of commercial sodium silicate solutions. It is an ionic compound consisting of sodium cations Na+ and the polymeric metasilicate anions [–SiO2−3–]n. It is a colorless crystalline hygroscopic and deliquescent solid, soluble in water (giving an alkaline solution) but not in alcohols.[1]
————————

So don’t use rubbing alcohol but try the ammonia windex?

This glass stripper works great. Give it a try.

If that 3D product etched your glass then all you can do is polish it with a high speed polisher and glass polish but you have to be careful because if you polish too much it will create distortion. Try the glass stripper first. I used it on my Rivian and there's no "coating" on the glass.
