R1T compatible USB type c port splitter(s)

Greetings,

The ridiculous few type c ports (2) inside the center console are not enough considering the dash cam storage requires one of them. When my wife and take a drive it would be nice to not have to ro-sham-bo over who gets their phone charged. Has anyone found any port splitters that allow for charging on both ports that work w/the Rivian?

I tried a Belkin F7U081 from BestBuy w/zero joy. It looks like it should work but doesn't.

I'd like to avoid the 12V outlet under the dash; hence the specificity of the type c center console ports.

There are Type C behind the driver and Passenger seat headrests. And on the Back of the center Console...This makes 6 within a two foot reach of either person.

I am aware of the others but I have young boys that could tear up an anvil with a toothpick. Having anything in any of those ports with them anywhere in the car would just be begging for broken ports.

The cases on our phones do not allow for the devices to charge reliably.

It seems fine. Doesn’t charge the fastest because the USB C ports aren’t very powerful themselves. There are, I think, a billion of these splitters though so you shouldn’t have too much trouble unless I am missing something.

I saw that very one before I pulled the trigger on the Belkin one. I refrained because of the 2nd image indicating "Note: Charging is not supported".

But you say it actually _does_ charge devices?

Yea. The description is wild. I think it is saying you can’t charge the opposite way or something. But it charges. If you scroll down there are more images showing charging.

s00nish has an adapter - to convert the charging pad power into usbc outlets

yes there are more steps like replacing the charge pad - but this would add two more usb a OR c ports for you to use.

The way USB-C works for charging, you can't really charge two devices at once. Voltage changes by device, and sometimes even based on the charge level of the device, and there is two-way communication between USB-C source and device. You won't find a simple "splitter" for USB-C charging.

There are "separate data from power" devices, as you have found, or data-only hubs; but nothing that is a simple "plug into USB-C, get two USB-C to charge things from" wire.

Your best bet would be to get a USB-C battery pack that has two "out" ports plus an "in" port, put it in the center console plugged in to one of the ports inside it. It will act as a "buffer" between the vehicle and your phone, providing you with two charge ports from one input port.

I guess "splitter" was too colloquial. Type C laptop docks allow for passthrough charging, among other things. What I want, and could easily exist, is that but w/out all of the extraneous non charging type c ports. This is what I had hoped the Belkin unit was.

That's what I had initially used but the environmental perils of the inside console box of the R1T proved to be too much for the Zendure SuperTank Pro I was using. It worked great whilst it lasted but it no longer holds a charge. I figured I'd look to a more proper solution over killing another power bank. In light of the limited options, it might well be the least worst.

It no longer holds a charge. Seems this HyperJuice is a similar beast. A bit flatter and longer perhaps a bit more grunty. Seems the SuperTank Pro is unobtainium (likely discontinued) whereas the HyperJuice is at least buyable off of Amazon.

I will test mine this am with two devices. 99% sure it charges both. I have my splitter connected to two MagSafe pucks. Again not great speed but unless I have missed it (possible) it does charge two at once.

edit: the pucks connected to the splitter charge two devices at once. I am not sure of charging speed. The only app I have to test takes a while. Anyone know of an iOS app to monitor charging speed?
