I'll be doing the same. My guide said they might be able to give some type of tour maybe as well. Were you told something similar?
Our guide has said we would get a tour before delivery, but I won’t be heart broken if it doesn’t happen. He told us the factory delivery center is jammed with people coming in to take delivery before end of year.

I got through 6 of 8 steps relatively quickly, but then was taken backwards when Rivian didn’t approve my insurance coverage (which I was already paying for) because my policy renewal date is at the end of February, and Rivian requires 90 days of insurance coverage.

I’ve asked my insurance co if I can pay my renewal premium now, and thus far they’re saying that it’s too early for them to process the payment. The insurance person also said they’ve never heard of a car company refusing to sell you a car (when they’re not also the lender) because you “only” have 60+ days of insurance coverage, and this is ridiculous. I agreed, and pointed out that it’s equally ridiculous that their company is forcing me to take my business to a competitor because they’re unable to take my money. If my insurance co can’t figure this out by noon tomorrow, I’ll be forced to use Rivian’s insurance.
This sounds very odd, but maybe it‘s a state specific issue. Also, if you have to go with Rivian’s insurance, once you complete the sale you should be able to add it to your own policy and cancel the Rivian policy. Or is this 90-day requirement tied to financing? Just spitballing here.

First (real) post!
Put in for a R1T Max Pack, camp kitchen, tent, etc. In Feb '22.

Was adamant that I'd wait for a Max Pack, but bailed a few weeks after the "Jan 24-Dec 24" estimate came in. My logic is that by then maybe Ford, Chevy, Tesla, lucid, someone will have a better "long range towing compatible" offering... or maybe we end up not loving the Rivian and we'll end up with a plug-in hybrid truck/SUV.

Anyway, after the switch I was hoping for a delivery in the spring, but got a surprise email yesterday asking to confirm the configuration, and then got a VIN assigned (and 8 steps) about 15 minutes later.

We live about 90 minutes from the Normal plant, so we'd love to pick it up this year... Cash in hand Rivian! I haven't heard from my guide, even after reaching out, but it's the weekend, so I'll cut them slack... But it was a very exciting

Wow, they’re really trying to move some trucks. Congrats. The guides don’t work on weekends. Just M-F during business hours.

Haha, that was my first reaction... Gotta get as close to that 25k delivery estimate as possible! Really didn't expect a truck this year, but I'm all for it. My wife is already trying to make some road trip plans.

Any way to know where "my truck" might be before my guide hopefully shows up on Monday?

If you got the 8-steps it‘s finished production and has been released for Pre-Delivery Inspection. We’re getting a truck direct from the factory and that’s how our process worked. The PDI can take anywhere from 1-5 days and after this is complete Step 8 will open up.

As long as your truck is set for Normal, IL delivery, it’s at the factory somewhere.

Your guide will also verify the documents you’ve uploaded into the 8-steps, which I think can coincide with step 8 opening up. You must submit your proof of insurance with the new Rivian VIN and your funds at least one business day before you can pickup the truck.

February 2022 order already getting delivery...I'm sure that makes some 2019/2020 reservation holders quite happy!

After thinking on this a bit more, I think there might have been some confusion and the rep might have been alluding to the Aux Air Compressor Kit, which is in the Gear Shop now.

My guide says my truck is still in transit from Normal. 10 days seems like a long time, but he assures me I should take delivery before the year is up. It’s true waiting for step 8 is the longest!

Update on this insurance problem. I asked my guide to escalate this issue, and a couple hours later, Rivian approved my proof of insurance.

Details - My insurance agent explained that no insurance co would renew a policy 60 - 90 days before expiration, because many things can happen that would change the premium. This is why renewal premiums are established about 30 days out. I explained this to my guide and also noted that my lender didn’t ask for any proof of insurance at all, so why would Rivian be worried about it 60 days after purchase?

Headache resolved. Now back to waiting for my truck to arrive at the SC.

I don't envy your drive but I know you're going to love the ride anyways. TEAM BLUE! :)
Flying in, driving home. Should be a fun first adventure in the R1T. We just need to stay ahead of the snow.

We’re doing the same thing, but step 8 hasn’t opened up for us yet. Our guide had to make some calls to stop our truck from being loaded up and shipped to Richmond because she said it wouldn’t be ready until after the new year if they brought it out here. We’re doing factory pickup to get it sooner so I’ll be flying out as soon as it’s ready! Long drive back, but some beautiful scenery along the way! Hopefully the holiday traffic isn’t too bad for you folks!
