R1T Tailgate Protection Ideas

Hey folks,
I’m looking for a semi permanent protector for the upper rear tailgate (painted area) between brake light bar and tailgate cap. See photo yellow highlight.

I’m thinking some sort of sticker since it’s aluminum but was hoping there is either something specific or something others have used. I haven’t messed it up yet but even folks opening the tailgate and catching it with their hand have a real risk of scratching it (keys/tools in hand) as that’s the default place. Looking for something thicker than std vinyl wrap and less tacky than bumper stickers in a long line. Any solutions?

Btw, generally with the truck, sliding things off the back of bed I tend to catch the tailgate cap. It’s annoying but I’ve learned to live with it. Don’t think there is a better aftermarket replacement but if there is please let me know.

There are the universal bumper protectors you could use but not going to look good in that area. Best option would be thicker PPF like 8mil or higher.

When I had PPF done on the front of my truck, I also had them apply it over that area too. Has worked great so far.

It's a thick (pvc I think?) material. Similar to a heavy electrical tape. It installs like ppf with soapy water. I gently lifted up the edge of abs tailgate cap and ran it underneath a ways using a window tint squeegee tool. It's bt flat and matte black. I think it looks good next to the black tailgate cap. It's a little grippy and aids in lifting the gate. It's protected the paint well from loading and unloading my mtn bike. It's held up great for over a year in the AZ sun/heat.
