R2 Cargo Area Dimensions (Depth, Width, Height, Hatch Opening, Between Wheel Wells - Measurements)

I did some R2 cargo area measurements because dog crate options are key for me.

Biggest limitation for me is the cargo hatch opening, since I need a crate for a large GSD. Inside cargo area ceiling height is 31" inch-ish, but the cargo opening has a lower lip at around 29" inches. There aren’t really any travel crates the size I need that are that short.

Cargo area width (wheel well to wheel well) is about 41" inch, and depth to the back of seats up is about 36.5" inch.

If it works for your dog, a MIM Variocage Double XL looks like it should fit in the R2 based on your measurements.

I've got the Double XXL+ in my R1S for our 2 ~65 lb GSDs.

Thanks, that’s definitely an option I’ve been looking at. The benefit of a more standard crate that I’ve been hoping for is the ability to take it out of the car and use it to crate at accommodations when traveling. But having that dual function might not be feasible

So 29", but maybe a tiny bit less so you don't tear up the liner in the opening when you slide stuff in?

Thank you for this. It’s the last piece of the puzzle I’ve been looking for. At least once a month I need to haul my bass rig to a show and was hoping I could fit it all in without dropping the rear seats.
