I haven't seen this comment and so I hope its additive and relevant.

I've seen a few people say the driver's seat has been tough to situate for some. As a frequent rental car driver (generally 30-35 per year) I spend a lot of time trying to quickly acclimate to a premium level cars and often take SUVs.

When it comes to seat adjustment they seem to me to fall into two categories once we're in that premium segment of 10+ point adjustment seats.

Category 1: Let you tilt the seat cushion down to what at least feels like past 0 degrees.

Category 2: Seat cushions that don't really tilt enough to give you the feeling of stretching your legs at almost a sedan angle.

For long trips I prefer category 2 and unfortunately the R2 didn't get near this angle in my estimation. Not a deal breaker by any stretch - I think Autonomy or simply lane-keep cruise control can offset the leg fatigue that can come from that angle - but one small detail from my test drive.

Hard to know if after 8 minutes in the driver's seat its a real issue or just a function of not having a ton of time to really evaluate. Loved most things about the car, this is less nit-pick and more observation.

I made the mistake of driving the R1S right before the R2 and the difference was noticeable. I found the R1S to be far more comfortable. One of my biggest issues with seat adjustability is getting the seatbelt to not cut me across the neck. For me, the R2 is one of the worst I've driven. I take delivery of an R1S tomorrow (provided we get everything done since I just placed the order Sunday and still need to get through the financing part.) That said, if I couldn't do the R1S for whatever reason, the R2 would still be a very compelling vehicle and many people will love it.

After test drove the Performance trim for 30 minutes, I agree that the R2 seats are quite firm and not especially comfortable. I suspect Rivian designed them with both on-road and off-road driving in mind, where added support is beneficial. I'm hoping the upcoming Premium trim will offer a softer seat and a more comfortable ride overall.

I did two test drives with the R2. The first one I thought the seats were fine but the second test drive, with a different R2, I noticed the seat hitting my upper back right where the split is. I did not notice it on the first test drive so not sure if there is a manufacturing difference or not. It was noticeable and I’ll need to look into it more if I do get called to buy one.

I'm guessing the lumbar support setting was different on the 2 cars. My husband couldn't get comfortable at first on our drive until he realized their was an adjustment for that.

I believe the comfort depends heavily on the size of the person.

Was out at a shopping area today where this is a Rivian store. There was a R2 in Launch Green. I sat I it and was able to adjust the seats quickly to a very comfortable position. I am 5-9, 175 lbs fit build and I found the seat to be far more comfortable than my R1S seat.

The R1S seat in comparison is too wide and lacks bolster and lateral support. This is where the R2 seats fit better.

The other thing I noticed was that the door open and closure was so different than R1S. The door is much lighter to open and close. I did not like how it closed. It sounded and felt sloppy and loose. Much prefer the air tight like solid sound and feel of R1S. Perhaps this was unique to this display vehicle.

I realize there is a significant price difference but I can assure you that there are plenty of lower priced vehicles with better feeling and sounding door closer.

there's no way the Premium has a seat that's any different than the Performance. the specs would have shown this on the Rivian website. both have "Premium interior with wood accents, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and Rivian Torch flashlight"

After a few test drives, My bony, skinny backside found the R2 seats to be quite comfy, adjustable to meet my needs. Longest I was in one was about 40 minutes. YMMV

I noticed the same thing in the 2 different R2's I sat in (drove one of them). I fiddled with every adjustment and angle to no avail. I am waiting for my VIN right now, when my number comes up, I'll head back to the KoP store and have another go. Seat comfort is paramount as I spend 2+ hrs a day in my vehicle. My old R1S was fine, current i4 is fine.
