Is there not a button to open and close it like on the R1T?

no, it’s auto open, but manual close. It’s a spring mechanism.

It'd be user friendly if they did include the strap or at least a slot/latch where we can install our own. Alternative is to just walk to the side of the vehicle and grab the hood at a lower point.

It was shown to have this, where at least I could have put a strap myself.

And for reference- RJ is about 6'2"
