I had the issue of blind spot monitoring not Workong and it constantly said rear cross traffic not available. Mobile tech came out and said that the sensors somehow had different software versions. He forced them to update and it’s resolved the issue.

I'm having this same issue. I have to do a hard-reboot (hazard button + left-most steering wheel button) to make everything work okay again, but then the next day (or sometimes the day after) it comes back. Usually, it's just the "Rear Cross-Traffic" warning message, but once (so-far), all sensors stopped functioning (a bunch of yellow icons on the bottom of the instrument panel). I had to pull off to the side of the road and do a hard-reboot to get everything back.

On one occasion I didn't notice the message until I was almost ran into as I was backing out of my driveway. There was no warning that one of my neighbors was barreling down the street towards me, and not even slowing down. The "automated emergency braking" didn't engage either.

I'm not sure it is specifically a sensor malfunction since a reboot makes the problem go away temporality. It does seem to happen more often after the last software update, though. I think something about the car going to sleep for a long period of time that is what causes this to happen. That's what I've noticed anyway, but I'm not an engineer.

If this issue is not resolved with the next software update I'm going have to schedule a service call.

Any update to this issue? I've been getting the "sensors still starting up" message whenever I shift into drive or reverse, and the rear cross traffic sensor stays permanently off. Really sucks, because I lose the cross traffic warning on the side mirrors. No amount of soft/hard reboots have worked. I had hoped the 2025.18 update would fix it, but sadly the problem still remains.

My issue is so freaking sporadic. This morning backing out, all is well.
I finally get to the highway, all sensors thus far were fine, I engaged cruise control and within a moment it all crashed. System fault detected.

Then the messages went away a moment later and I tried again and cruise control worked again for the remainder.

Shelton is getting me back into the shop in a couple weeks.

Happens on both my Gen 1s when first start up and back out of garage and never been an issue. One actually get to where I actually might need them they work fine.

My Tesla has the same 15 seconds are so for such systems to load.

On a Gen2 R1S dual motor I've been experiencing the "rear cross-traffic warning unavailable" consistently now (most times I drive) and also get a message that sensors are still "starting up" and not fully functioning. The issue seemed to manifest a couple of weeks ago after the 2025.14 software update was installed, though that could be coincidence, and I can't say for sure that it didn't happen before the software update. Proximity sensors and cameras are still working, so it seems to be just the radar sensor(s). For example, automatic lane change no longer works. I haven't seen many reports of this online, so a faulty sensor seems most likely. I made an appointment to have it checked out at a service center in a couple of weeks and will update when I have more information.
The problem turned out to be a defective left rear radar sensor, which Rivian replaced under warranty. The relationship to the software update was coincidental. No issues on the drive home from the service center, so hopefully this is resolved.

Maybe it is because you are in a garage and the sensors cannot detect traffic from the side because of the garage walls ;)
Yep.

Before the 2025.14 update, I received the notices that cross traffic warning was unavailable when starting up. After the update, the message is something like “sensors warming up” or something like that. I installed the 2025.18 update a day ago and will see what happens the next time I head out

I see this on my Tri frequently. Now that I think about it, it's only if the truck has been sitting for a day or so undriven (so in my driveway). I've also gotten various errors pop up over the next 5 minutes of driving, like "tailgate not functioning" (even though I'm not on the road and not doing anything with the tailgate). Also one where proximity sensors aren't working.

It goes away after a few minutes and I never get the error for the rest of the day.

I chalk it up to some of the CPUs and zonal systems not coming out of sleep fast enough...

Dear dog, has anyone ever heard of technology 'self-healing' ?

All of updates are installed, and for the last couple weeks, there was no further issue with the sensors and disabled cruise control. My next followup appt with Shelton is a week away, and I wonder if I should cancel it?

Maybe I should keep it because I asked them for tire rotation and they didnt do it.
