Regional issue affecting sensors?

So here’s a fun mystery. I’ve had a couple recent northern Iowa trips up and down I-35. These trips both were separated by roughly two months. When going southbound between Clear Lake and Latimer exits, I’ll get an error on the driver display indicating my rear ultrasonic sensors are not working. It will clear as I get south of the Highway 3 exit.

What do we know about regional factors in this area that might interfere with the ultrasonic sensors?
