Request for : First Mile Event and Test Drive invitees - Charging, UI, Efficiency Information

I have a request for all the first Mile event and test drive invitees.
While you are doing the test drives if you could capture the following information and post it on this thread.

1. Efficiency numbers - I know you will not be driving the vehicles long enough to get an accurate number. But while you are doing your test drive, if you could capture or log what you are seeing for the efficiency numbers (mi/kwh, kwh/100km), in Auto and or Conserve mode. This might give us an idea about the efficiency of these vehicles.

2. If you could ask the Rivian contact about the charging curve or if they have any plans to release a charging curve for the Rivian, not the peak charge rate.
Similar to what BMW has released for the i4.

If enough of us ask this information, maybe Rivian might actually produce this number, considering they have been testing this thing up the ying yang !

3. If you could log or capture(video) the UI interactions. Specifically how the UI feels when you interact with the climate controls (onscreen vent adjustments), interacting with navigation, etc. Also how the navigation UI functions when it's doing navigation (zoom, scrolling)

4. If you could capture the cabin noise levels while driving, maybe via a dB app (on your smartphone) and see what kind of numbers you are getting ?

5. For the audiophile (or Audio snobs ) - If you can take a USB drive with music files (MP3, FLAC, WAV, etc.) and see if the infotainment would recognize it. If the Rivian contact says it's not supported, then could you ask when they are planning on adding this functionality ?.
Maybe if enough of us ask about it, then Rivian might consider adding this functionality soon enough.

Hopefully if enough of you can capture these information, we could get some kind of a rough idea about some pending questions (charging, efficiency, UI functionality) about these vehicles.

According to my communications for the upcoming Sonoma test drive event:
The test drives will be 15m per driver, and will involve heavy acceleration/handling on pavement as well as a fair amount of dirt and rocks.

It's not just that we won't be driving long enough to get an accurate number... But rather the type of driving we'll be doing will be entirely irrelevant to someone trying to figure out highway or around-town efficiency.

I'll glance down at the numbers when I get a chance, but won't be logging them.

Here's about the best info we have on real world efficiency on the highway:

I think it's fair to assume they are the 20 ATs. I'd also assume that's with conserve (it's conservative to at least). So 250 to 260 miles at highway speeds? No clue if it's downhill at all, but I'd be happy with that.

260 miles on AT tires at 75mph with a decent headwind is pretty good. I’d also be pretty happy with that.

Be sure its a USBC drive or have an adapter. I believe all ports in the Rivian are USBC not USBA

While you’re at it, confirm HD Radio support, it wasn’t there when I visited Venice Hub.

Their IG account. They also charged at EA today, but I (and others) suspect something was up between the charger and truck. Just a bit slower than it should be even with lo expectations.

Charging at EA locations is a dice roll. Sometimes you get really smooth fast charging, but more often you get chargers that are completely broken or stuck at sub 100 charge rates.

It's almost certainly EA and nothing vehicle side there.

Yeah. Or they are still working on communication between the truck and EA. Like seemingly every other new car that's released.

It seems very regional too. I've always had pretty good luck in the PNW with my ID.4.

@Smithery Yeah, you guys are not going to have a lot of time to get these information. But any information you can grab would be helpful.

With Rivian guarding this information like a trade secret two months into delivering vehicles and allegedly getting their initial pre-order holders to sign an NDA, this might be the only way we can get this info, until 'real' customers get their vehicles, and start reviewing and reporting real life usage information.

I've never heard any such allegations other than jokes, well before meaningful info started to leak out.

Rivian has produced a production vehicle and handed over complete control of that vehicle to a private party.
The person who paid money for that truck now owns the title. And is a real customer.

I don't want to divert this thread from the original intended discussion, so why don't we agree to disagree, and that we both have differing opinions about 'real customers' and 'real deliveries'.

I worked at a telecom who had a incentive program called 'Wireless Ambassador Program', where employees had access to the company's cellphone plan at 1/5 the cost of the market price of the same plan. The intention was so employees can promote the company, as well as ensure employees sign up for this plan, so they can report all of them as 'subscribers' for their quarterly revenue report. Can these employee customers be considered the same as a retail customers ?
I will leave it up to you to make that decision.

When people use the "employees who pay money for a truck they then own are not customers" as part of their argument for... something... it often invalidates much of their argument.

So... "agree to disagree" doesn't work if you're trying to establish shared understanding the facts and have an otherwise productive conversation.

I get an employee discount, and occasionally get a privately owned instance of the product before the public can. I pay $$ for it and it is mine.

Yes, I'm a customer at that point.

If a vehicle is purchased and privately registered by a person, they are a customer whether or not they are also an employee.

However, I think folks are getting too hung up on the concept of "customer" when the concern is that, as employees, these initial customers may not be offering the most unbiased feedback. This is a fair concern.
