So I have 3D Kagu cargo liners throughout my R1S....but I don't see they have a liner to protect the RIS tailgate when it's down. Suggestions please. What are you using to protect the inward (carpet side) of the tailgate?

I have a full Canvasback liner, including the tailgate liner (2 pieces), which you can purchase separately. Held on with self-adhesive hook and loop strips that are supplied with the tailgate pieces.

Thanks for the reply @SILVERR1S. I'll take a closer look at the canvasback option. Since I have the molded-rubber look with my existing 3D Kagu liners I was hoping to have something that matches that material better. But I'm trying to be as open-minded as possible. Appreciate your help.

Any other suggestions from other R1S owners to look at?

Taxmat is making 2-piece mat for the lower tail gate but not yet available. Just ordered their cargo liner set (see interior mod section of the forum under Tuxmat) and will order their tailgate mat when available.

Meanwhile I have Kagu (3DMaxpyder) cargo mat for the rear and their universal mat that I've cut and fitted onto protect the back of the 3rd row and the lower tailgate. Not perfect but I have had it in this configuration for over a year. I wanted all to match and do no like the look of Canvasback. I'm sure its a fine product, its just not for me.

Thanks for posting @mkg3! The trim-to-fit universal mat is something I hadn't noticed before. I guess I was so hyper-focused on just the Kagu Rivian specific bundle of products that I didn't look further into the rest of the website once I saw they had no option for tailgate coverage. I'm really surprised at the lack of options in the market overall for tailgate solutions for the R1S. As popular as this truck has become you'd think there would be more solutions available by now. Not sure if you've ever called 3D and spoken to someone in the company about the tailgate. I plan to call. Like you, I'd like my tailgate to match the look and feel of the rest of the liners I have throughout the car.

How did you get your trim-to fit universal mat cutouts to stay in place when you close the tailgate? Did you velcro them in somehow?

I'll checkout the Tuxmat options as well but i might just go with your suggestion of the 3D universals.

I used velcro tape to keep the two pieces in place. The universal mat I used is:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N1HXW2V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also, LinerX makes a cargo mat that protects the lower tailgate. The problem is that when closed, it extends well beyond the lower gate and will flap over. I didn't like the implementation so I started searching for a different solution.

In complete agreement about the lack of lower gate protection. Canvasback is the only one available today, as far as I know. It's bit complicated because as the tailgate lowered, it extends. The mat needs to be in 2 pieces to properly cover the area, if they are to close in place..

As for the 3rd row seat back mat, there is enough friction from the underside of the universal mat that they are just sitting there. I rarely have the 3rd row up so its just fine as is.

Side note: If you do decide to go with the universal mat, make sure you have a long enough straight edge and a sharp cutter/blade.

I just trimmed a black yoga mat to fit the width and depth of the tailgate when open. It is not attached, but the point is to protect the carpet when I need to stand on the tailgate.

Are you worried about the adhesive not coming off cleanly if ever remove this?
Not really. The hook and loop patches are only in the corners of the tailgate pieces. If I ever remove the tailgate pieces, I figure some Goo Gone and the cleaning the carpet on tailgate would suffice.

I ordered the cargo cover and the tailgate pieces. I believe the "standard" cargo liner has more pieces and much more hook and loop connection points.

I’m new here and the other day I was clicking around and Im certain I saw a cargo area and back of seat liner solution that looked like wood paneling. A light wood paneling. Did I imagine this or has anyone else seen this too?
