Thanks to all for the replies. I'm pleasantly surprised by the number of folks replying that their Rivian is the sole, or de-facto/quasi sole household vehicle. Come to think of it, I should have included a poll with the open-ended question of the posting.

While the delivery date for the R1S is back to "Processing estimate" (due to a config change), I expect that the July update will return a Sep - Nov window. The added wait time is not unwelcome for a few reasons.

One is that it buys time for two new Rivian service centers to come on-line. One (MD) is actually functional now, and will become a customer facing facility in the very near future. I don't have much info on the other (Trenton, NJ), but it clearly is not as far along. Both are closer and much more importantly, far more convenient for me than is the Brooklyn facility that's presently my assigned service center.

The wait also buys time for me to get my home charging situation lined up. While the wiring is not a hugely time-consuming chore, the wait gives me some space to decide on what charger to use. There are quite a few reasonably-priced units that get good reviews (e. g., Emporia, Grizzl-E) and for a few dollars more, I can have the Rivian (grandfathered in at the lower price). I don't want to turn this thread into an EVSE discussion, so I'll just say that I'm inclined to go with one of the better third-party chargers IF one of them goes on sale.

Again my thanks for the responses.

Going in for service for the first time at the end of the month for what is most likely the 12v battery issue (software won't update). Solid aside from that.
Same thing happened to me - they had to rebuild the firmware in one of the modules and it took almost a week. Fortunately they loaned me an equivalent R1S so it was a good overall experience.

Hey--we are 2 drivers and about to be 2 EVs as we dump a subaru for the r1T. I would mention that the one thing I am considering as my delivery is imminent is adding the rental car coverage for any accident as it does seem it just takes longer or is at least unpredictable for repairs. We can't afford to be witout 2 vehicles (no public options where we are) so I worry about some small accident taking one of the cars away for weeks...

R1T has been my only vehicle since December. No issues to speak of. Brought it in for service once for factory defects and had an amazing experience. I'm lucky I live 15 miles from a service center so uber credits work well for me, but that might be a YMMV thing.

We are a full ev family (Tesla and rivian) living with only 110v plug. It’s pretty manageable, for our living style.
You charge your Rivian with the travel charger? Jesus that wouldn't get me through 1/4 of my day lol.

I kept the ICE vehicle I was using as my bridge car (gave my daughter my i3 last year- she gave me her Mazda) for almost a month after my Rivian was delivered. I figured that would be enough time to shake out any issues and I could always hold on to the ICE longer if needed... which it wasn't. The R1T was flawless from day one, I then had no issue selling the Mazda to ALGO (best offer I got).

Tesla receives about 5 mph on our 110v home charger, and the r1t receives about 2 mph on the 110v charger. We can only charge one vehicle at a time, otherwise it will trigger the plug.

Just saw your location is SF- I guess that could work there as you probably don't put a ton of miles on a day and if you do chargers are everywhere. In socal, no way. I put 70 miles a day (often more) on the ol' blue whale.

My R1T has been only vehicle since I got it 11 months ago. No issues here.
