I've had home, auto and motorcycle policies through Progressive for 10 years. I received my VIN and purchase steps for my R2 order today, so I called Progressive first to see what kind of a quote they would give me.

I got all my policy info together for comparison purposes and then I called Rivian insurance. The rep I spoke to was very knowledgeable and super friendly. I asked her to build a quote for bundling my home and auto insurance and was pleasantly surprised by the result.

Not only was she able to beat Progressive's auto quote on price, but I got higher coverage limits and extra features (like full glass coverage, full vehicle replacement coverage, etc.) which weren't present on my Progressive policy. Most surprising of all was the home policy quote. Higher coverage limits across the board and $400/year less than I've been paying with Progressive.

Definitely going with the Rivian insurance coverage for my R2, and I'm curious to know what your experiences with this process are?

We switched all of our insurance to Nationwide ("Rivian insurance"). Including home & my wife's car. The bundled deal beat everything our previous companies (including USAA & Erie) could do. Zero complaints, zero issues. Obviously Ymmv. šŸ˜‰

Editing to add: Not sure if they still do it, but at the time they even sent us a Ting for free, and gave us a discount for that. 😊

Hope it doesn’t happen to you, but many people who went with rivian insurance had their rates jacked up after the first year. They use the bait and switch on ya.

How much are they quoting you for the R2?

Guessing the policy is through Cincinnati Financial? If so, similar experience for me and, of course, it's not "Rivian insurance"; it's "Cincinnati Financial insurance" (or whoever the actual insurer is).

Insurance rates have been going up by crazy percentages for the past few years. All the insurance companies are raising their rates. USAA has been getting approval for statewide increases (here) of 25% or more every 6 months for the past two years. Just last month mine went up 39%. I'm paying more than twice as much now for my 4 year old Rivian, and it has nothing to do with my driving record - it's all rate increases filed with the state.

I feel like I am lifetime ahead on insurance thanks to Rivian (Nationwide) insurance. In my area (Florida) they were the only option that offered full replacement coverage which I really wanted due to the cost of the R1T and the crazy prices I was hearing to repair. Full replacement coverage cost me $38 for the first year I had my truck. Before the year was up I was rear-ended sitting at a traffic light by a Silverado going 40 mph. I was able to drive away when it was over - not so much the Silverado. But ultimately my R1T was deemed ā€˜totaled’. Not a single issue with Nationwide… they wrote me a check for a brand new $100K+ R1T (G2 this time - I was a discounted pre-order holder first time around). You can bet I signed right back up for ā€˜Rivian insurance’… and full replacement coverage… just in case lightning strikes twice. See details in my signature line.
