A patent confers an exclusive right. That means that, for a limited time, you can prevent others from practicing your invention. Often, companies seek a patent for just that reason--to exclude competition. Another reason is to keep others--patent trolls--from obtaining a similar patent then threatening action unless you pay. A patent does not confers the right to practice an invention. Companies apply for patents on stuff that doesn't seem worthwhile. They may not even ever practice the invention. Interesting, this application references a provisional application from 2024. A provisional application requires no specific format or specific content. Provisional applications are not examined or published. The USPTO just keeps them on file. What it can do is to establish a priority date. Provisional patent applications are inexpensive. If a corresponding patent application is not filed within a specified time a provisional patent has no effect.
I think that this application is following up on an idea someone had years ago.
