Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t consider Rivian’s (single stalk push) cruise control Driver +. I have to agree that Driver +is definitely a work-in-progress. I read JM’s “awful system“ comment as an indictment on the entire software system.
What you are referencing is ACC, part of Driver+. But it's dog shit as well...

Depends on what "the entire software system" means. If it's all of the ADAS in gen 1, then yes, that entire software system is objectively and provably awful. If "entire software system" means all of the software in the vehicle, then it really shines in places and is awful in others.

Bullshit. I mean, maybe Rivian's awful system can't, but many others can. The Rivian tells me how much the trailer weighs, and it could do the math. Additionally it has sensors that can change the braking force thousands of times per second.
I feel a bit wronged that you quoted me partially and then wrote "bullshit".

Here is what I wrote:

The reason for this seems to be that, with a heavier load, the vehicle cannot accurately judge stopping distance. IMHO, that seems to be a terrible excuse for making the vehicle less safe and not even attempting to slow or stop when it can clearly detect vehicles ahead. Would much prefer if they displayed a big warning that the added weight might not allow adequate braking. Better yet, force maximum following distance and be more aggressive about braking early.

I feel a bit wronged that you partially quoted me, without including my follow up comment that, even if the system could not guarantee stopping in time, it shouldn't least try. (Best effort cannot even trying).
I used adaptive cruise with a trailer a couple weeks ago. I remember thinking about this thread and wondering if they changed something.

I think it may have been because I didn't get the trailer light plug fully inserted and the truck didn't know it was towing. It worked fine, though. I just didn't have tail lights. 😮

I'm fully aware of what you wrote, I quoted the BS parts.
The fact that my very next sentence sentence refutes that didn't register with you?!

Not sure if that is lack of reading comprehension or black belt troll cherry picking skills on your part.

Strange, just not my experience. I know the manual says the lines have to be visible for ACC but I have never had it not work.

I was out early today driving into the sun at sunrise, thought I would test again. Pushed the lever down once, cruise engaged, message on dash was something like glare detected stay alert but ACC was working.

Driver+ was not, trying to engage it the message was something like glare detected driver+ unavailable.
That is not what I experienced. Multiple times after driving for few minutes on highway, lines dissappeared and basic cruise control won't work and had to put my foot on accelerator for hours.

I disagree with that claim. The vehicle definitely does detect the weight. It could, but doesn't, detect how much trailer braking is possible.
