This has happened to me too and is annoying when it occurs.

How do other cars with adaptive cruise control handle this when sensors are dirty or whatever? Rivian is my first with adaptive cruise control.

I can see why it is the way it is for safety reasons but it would be nice if this were a setting or you could acknowledge downgrading to dumb cruise control when adaptive isn't available.

Leave the ICE world behind. Just say no to old school "dumb" cruise control. Both the current Rivian cruise control and hands free driving are awesome. Change is a good thing. I also don't want archaic knobs on the beautiful dash. Let Scout have the plastic knob market. Drive well.

TACC fails sometimes. Having the ability to fall back on regular cruise is nice.

My dad’s 2018 Toyota Camry had “radar cruise control”. Like most cars, you have to turn the CC on before you can activate it. It you short-press the On button, you get normal traffic-aware cruise control. If you long-press the On button, you get dumb cruise control for that session. There are rather large warnings shown on the screen when selecting dumb mode and some differences in the graphics. If you want to switch modes, you have to turn Off the cruise control system, not just disengage it.

Is there a resume option when you want to return to your old speed setting? I haven’t figured it out yet.

Sorry, @Carscott, Rivians have no "resume speed" function that I know of.

Best wishes!

They keep working. I've had my Jeep dirty as hell and ACC keeps working. Rivian ADAS is lame.

They stop working on Fords and Teslas just like Rivians. Can’t speak for other brands.

Not on my Mach-e. It drops out of ACC and it also does not have normal non-adaptive cruise.

Bullshit. I mean, maybe Rivian's awful system can't, but many others can. The Rivian tells me how much the trailer weighs, and it could do the math. Additionally it has sensors that can change the braking force thousands of times per second.
Rivian’s “awful system”? That’s a trollish comment if I’ve ever heard one. Stick to your Swasti-car and you’ll be good.

Rivian's Driver+ is objectively terrible. It's not trolling if it's true.

Yeah, it's really telling how the fanboism goes on some forums. Here you have to shit on Tesla and praise Rivian 100%. It's just a car, not a lifestyle. Despite how much the marketers tell you to make it your personality.

On a Toyota forum I was told about the same thing when noting how awful their ADAS is. And that's well documented.

Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t consider Rivian’s (single stalk push) cruise control Driver +. I have to agree that Driver +is definitely a work-in-progress. I read JM’s “awful system“ comment as an indictment on the entire software system.
