I received my email yesterday to start the 8 steps to purchase, I have a Vin now. Problem is for the past 7-8 months I have been trying to get Rivian to apply to be a part of a NJ state program that they advertise that they are eligible for on their web site.
The state program requires that EV vehicle builders register as "vendors" to the program. Basically submit paperwork that they are a real company and build the required product, and that they will accept the state voucher for the vehicle. Unfortunately Rivian did not look into this, and until I got a guide assigned to me, I could not even get past customer service to get Rivian to engage in the process of applying as a vendor. For months now I have been told that this is in progress, but when I talk to the state program, they state that Rivian has not provided the requested documentation.
It is very frustrating that Rivian posts on their website that they are eligible for an incentive program, but then will not do what they need to do to allow people to apply.
I can afford the Rivian without the incentive program but if I can avail myself of one, why would I not? If Rivian does not want to submit to the program, they should: A. Notify me they are not going to participate.
B. They should remove it from their website as an incentive they are eligible for, because they are not due to their own choices.
Am I wrong in thinking this? I mean Rivian went out of their way to get people some cover for the tax credit, this is just one program in one state, and the incentive is way more than what the Fed is offering. Rivian gets their money either way, why should they care whose pocket it comes out of?
