They glue/bolt aluminum panels on. You don't weld aluminum.

Not when you cut a damaged part off of the body. The seam would be welded. In addition, aluminum frames (such as the Audi R8) are welded.

Yep . . . my bad I was clearly wrong. I do know that they build the aluminum F-150 with just rivets and glue.

Most likely these panels will be bolted on. The F150 has a complete aluminum bed, that's why the side panels are glued/riveted (SPR) . Since the Rivian bed will be composite, I am almost 100% sure these panels will be bolted on. The Tacoma is built that way.

That would be helpful for a more simple replacement.

I own a collision repair shop so I know a little, haha.

Absolutely! I near fell off my chair when the body shop charged $15k to do the work. When people build cars like this it is reflected in the insurance. But this seems to be the trend.

Oh wait, I just zoomed in and noticed the side is all one piece. That is really unique! So yes, it would definitely have to be cut at the location where it curves up. But the rest of the bed must be bolted on. Wow, that makes it a large repair.

Many cars these days have aluminum body panels, I think ford has even been doing it in their F150 since 2015 or 2016.

We had a 2005 Jaguar SuperV8 which had an aluminum body. It got rear-ended in Laguna Beach in 2008 or 2009 and a body shop in Santa Ana which was redommended by Jaguar to work on aluminum did an amazing job. I’m not concerned about getting aluminum body work done in 2021 and beyond.

Mostly true. I watched this video when I wanted to know what they were going to do to my tesla as I had the same damage. The glue most of it, but there are some tack welds...
