Carl would be a successful detailed bridge between the designers and finance. The outcome would be to maintain the super high quality multiple layers and materials, without busting costs and having operational issues down both manufacturing and ownership. Value engineering can be invaluable and not result in a cheap outcome or scarred design team.

Since we’re in the weeds, Carl looks pretty cramped at the helm. Sure he’s a big guy but it’s somewhat akin to a monkey humping a football.

I think the seat was adjusted for the other person or possibly another driver and he just didn't want to adjust it. As a fellow "very large man" I never looked that cramped in the driver seat. Unless Carl is approximately the same size as Halfthør Bjornsson that seat is not adjusted for him.

Interesting but hard to watch. Listening to these two I come away with impression that if they had been leading the design team the interior would have looked more like a Tesla Model 3 and less like an Audi. Too many materials, too difficult to manufacture, too complex they say. There’s a term used in the design / construction industry : “value engineering “. It refers to revision process when a project is over budget. Designers understand it as the process by which all the “good stuff” is usually cut out. Rivian owners should rejoice in the knowledge that the bean counters were kept at bay and the original design and materials made it through to production.
The bean counters keep manufacturers from bankruptcy. Rivian would probably sell just as many vehicles with an interior closer to the new Model S. Rivian shows some signs of being over funded. Tesla is/was ruthless in their allocation of capital.

This video simply shows two professionals doing their job. This is fundamental to complex design and manufacturing.

Interesting interior design considerations and details and a very picky analysis. So many different materials - wood//metal/plastic/fabric/rubber/vinyl all required to fit together and work together.

This might be the whiniest garbage I've ever watched.
LOL. I haven’t seen it but I don’t doubt that for one second.

I cannot comprehend why people enjoy Grampa Simpson Sandy’s videos. The few that I tried - unsuccessfully - to watch were all the same shit show... a cantankerous, doddering old fart grumbling and mumbling and fumbling his way around automotive technology he sometimes irrationally doesn't appreciate and often can't fully comprehend. I understand that some folks respect his engineering background, but he shouldn't be allowed in front of a camera. Ever.
