I was looking into expiration of my rewards points this morning, and noticed that Rivian has further reduced the earning potential from referrals. As you may recall, Rivian had already eliminated the free RAN charging incentive as well as lowered the points earned from $750 to $500 per referral.

I suspect this reduction is mainly targeted at YouTuber/influencers as well as those that like to “sell” their referrals here and in Facebook groups. I doubt it will have a major impact on most of us, but want to point it out anyway.

New limits on earning per the T&Cs:
Existing Rivian owners (referrers) also earn points when their referral code is used as a part of ordering a qualifying Rivian vehicle that takes delivery, based on the number of referrals already earned:

  • 500 points (1-10 referrals)
  • 250 points (11-25 referrals)
  • 100 points (26-50 referrals)
  • 50 points (51-100 referrals)
  • 25 points (101+ referrals)

Yes program terms changed a while ago. You can backtrack blog posts at riviantrackr to see when. Clearly a reaction to influencers who used their platforms and audience to accumulate a lot of points. Though not against rules of the time, done in bad faith and at an expense to Rivian.

Not surprised by the devaluation. At this point, they are playing conservatively as they face a lot of headwinds financially. They are just trying to make it to the R2. Does suck for their customers, but they also can't say "hey, we're restricting the rewards to help us save some money" as that would make their stock fall more.
