Rivian Space Irvine, CA opens 3/7/25

Fashion Island already has multiple competitor showrooms and it's also a dying mall at this point ? There's a lot of vacancies there. It was a ghost town when I was there a couple weeks ago.

Last time I was there, Fashion Island had Tesla, Lucid and Lincoln showrooms, and the Apple Store had been moved to a better location, down on the Nordstrom wing.

The mall had a lot of weekday business due to being ringed by all the office high-rises (all owned by Irvine Co except Pacific Life building). A lot of running across the street for lunch or shopping. The work from home shift from the pandemic must have kicked the crap out of the sales numbers from every retailer there.

Here's how the Rivian Space at Irvine Spectrum looks like from outside.

Today was a beautiful day with the temperature in the mid to upper 70s in sunny SoCal (proof of why we pay the weather tax...)

So, we were out and about at the Spectrum and did go into the Rivian Space (the old Hurley store). Place was packed with people. Much smaller than Venice or Laguna (without the theater part). One of each R1 vehicles pretty much fills the entire space.

Asked about if and when they'll have R2 for display and was told next January/February timeframe shortly before the deliveries begin. Osborn effect aside, that's too bad as Spectrum would garner lots of interest in the R2 from all the shoppers walking around the venue.
