Paying U.S. wages to do this kind of work is very expensive
Tesla does everything related to ADAS and software in the U.S. but a lot of engineering is done in china
A senior AI engineer in silicon valley has a total comp; of over 700K. Tesla pays competitive wages. Rivian can't afford to spend 500 million dollars a year on employee salaries, so they take the cheaper route
Tesla also employs around 1200-1500 data labelers all here in the U.S.
