So how much is it going to cost me to get this painted?

My neighbors kid drove his bike in between or two cars in my driveway and his brake handle scratched my truck. So frustrating!

Looks to me like it might buff out, but its hard to see from the pic.

To get it repainted does not appear cheap if this thread is any indication: quotes In that case, I'd recommend just getting some touch up paint from the Gear Shop and doing the best you can.

Edit: you could also try something like scratch-X

looks like it can buff out, how deep is the scratch does it go to the metal or just surface scratch. If on the surface can easily buff out by hand with cutting compound.

Seems to me this neighbor kid owes you a lifetime of hard labor. No more lawn mowing or shoveling snow or chopping firewood for you

I've been told by a bodyshop owner friend that if you can feel the edge of the scratch, it goes beyond the clear coat and needs to be smoothed and painted to look right/original.

Buffing may lessen the scratch but will probably still be there.. I have had a similar scratch on Outback (navy color) and had asked.

Sorry to see, especially against a dark color.

Depends how deep it is and what level of repair you are acceptable with. If you can feel it catch & hang your fingernail significantly, you probably won't be able to "buff" it out by hand. To restore to new would probably be around $1K assuming it is only in the clear coat. If it is deeper, push that closer to $2K as they'll need to do the full door and blend to surrounding panels.

My guess is some cutting compound will remove a significant amount of the "white" discoloration but, it will still be visible and have depth to it.

The good news is, either method should also get rid of all those swirl marks in your clear coat. Then you'll just have to put in some effort to make the rest of the panels match ;)

If a neighbor kid scratched my R1T like that, I would expect the neighbor to pay to have it fixed.
