I dropped my truck for service in Seattle Tuesday, clearing out items from the cabin, bed, and took off the crossbars. I looked at the frunk tank and my gear tunnel slides thinking, "There's no way they'll need under those for suspension and tailgate issues." Well jokes on me, the suspension wiring harness runs right underneath where the slide rests.
I was given the option of $400 in labor or head to Seattle and remove it myself, with repairs stopped until it's removed. Luckily today was relatively quiet and I could delay most work till the afternoon, so I grabbed my tools and to Seattle I went! Traffic was a breeze at noon and surprisingly only took an hour from Silverdale.
Initially I was told they'd bring it into the parking lot, but instead I was led into the ENORMOUS Seattle Service Center that easily had over 100 trucks, SUVs and EDVs inside. It was amazing to see! I removed the bins, loosened the slides, and took them out. Easy breezy. Hindsight I should've removed the water tank too, but haven't been cued to do so yet.
Funny part is the tech said he looked up the slide install video and was going to remove them, "They look pretty straight forward," but a supervisor stopped him and they gave me the options. With the wiring harness immediately under the connecting bolts, it really did look vulnerable, and had dirt/sand on it. I'll definitely be crafting a proper covering when I get it back.
