Shipping By Train

I saw it mentioned in a post a few days ago, but not sure I saw any confirmation. Rivian has started shipping by train. A train car load (at least one, maybe more) arrived in Denver yesterday. To my knowledge, this was the first time a train with Rivians arrived in Denver. So this may be why things are backing up a bit in Normal. Rather than just throwing them on trucks, they are working through the logistics of shipping by rail.

Can corroborate. In scheduling delivery today, my guide said: "Just sent a message to my delivery team to see what the earliest real time-slot we can expect delivery to happen would be. I'll let you know once I hear back. I'm crossing my fingers that there is a train heading to SLC tonight with your car on it!"

My work is next to the rail yard they deliver ABR (Autos by Rail) to, will have to drive by and see if I can confirm any R1's in the yard. Yard is located at 96th and I-76 in Henderson, CO

If there are any Riv's on that lot, I can't tell. That had to be the fullest I have ever seen that lot. Tesla, Ford, and....

No Rivians that I can see. Pretty much EVERYTHING else, but no Riv's that I could see.

I wouldnt be surprised if the dealer is not picking up the vehicles, instead of a shipping truck. The Denver dealer is not in a truck friendly location at all. I am pretty sure a truck couldnt get in there at all! (I used to be a truck driver) The dealer is 8.5 miles from the train depot.

It's not ideal, but they have been getting car carriers into the service center. I've seen them unloading there a few times. I'm sure the driver's don't love it though...

Its not ideal, true..

I will add one caveat to my above... If its Union Pacific thats doing the rail transport, than the above yard would be correct.. If its Burlington Northern, I have no idea where their AbR yard is.

I will see what other info I can get. I know a guy that works in rail, and he said there was a Trainload (train car load? Not sure the terminology. Clearly I don't work in rail, LOL) at the auto distribution facility in Henderson that came in on Tuesday and was unloaded. Maybe they had them out the same day though. He said it was the first time he'd seen any Rivians on a train here in the Denver area. I will tell him I need pics next time or it didn't happen!

I seem to remember railroad tracks run right through the Normal Factory, actually. I wonder if they're utilizing that so that they drive the trucks straight from the factory onto the trains. That'd be mighty efficient.

yes, this was discuss last week ad nauseum as the trollls suggested Rivian would be stupid to economize shipping by conforming to a standard industry practice.
