Great financial move on Rivian’s part.

Two trim levels and three interior trim options simply adds complexity to production and vendors.

One trim level and two interior color options would be ideal.
Pretty soon....it'll be a 2 seater, one interior color for everything

I'd say 2024 or they'll kill the explore trim completely. I think they want to prioritize the highest profit margin vehicles. (of course that's assuming the adventure trim is a higher profit margin than explore and I don't know that - but it does generate more revenue).
I think literally anything that reduces number of line changes and/or eliminates any supply chain complexity = lower costs and higher margins. Not great news for those holding out for that trim level but probably good news for shareholders.

With all the inevitable Explore -> Adventure switches, there goes any chance I had to get my Rivian before 2023 ?
Might not be the case really if Rivian is saying that the pick rate was really low to begin with. So you have a small number of people who had explorer prior to you and an even smaller amount of people that would decide to switch to Adventure.

Not the back, but not necessarily the front either, which they make sure to point out. You'll be exactly where you should be based on order date, configuration and location.
I am not looking to jump the queue, but I don't want to get pushed back either. Actually, if I got pushed back initially because Rivian was prioritizing adventure over explore trim, then I might actually move further up the queue with this change.

That's what I'm saying, you will move up in absolute terms if you go from Explore to Adventure. But where you land will be exactly where you would have been had you been Adventure all along (other than scenario in which you already would have taken delivery). So, with some variability, when they are ready to deliver your configuration to your location/region, you'll be called in the order of your order date relative to dates with the same configuration in your same location/region.

Now that I have updated my configuration to the Adventure trim, I wonder if I will receive an updated delivery window.

Within the last two hours, we received an email from Rivian informing us that the Explore Package has been discontinued mainly because nobody ordered it, except us. The email told us if we want a truck, we needed to reconfigure our order to an Adventure Package.

After a short discussion, SuEllyn and I decided that we would reconfigure our order which we just completed moments ago. We ordered basically the same R1T except in the Adventure Package.

In Rivian's email they told us that "once we save our new configuration, our original preorder date will set our pricing and be used for our delivery timing estimate." With our preorder date, we should be getting a truck very soon.

We will let everyone know what happens.

This must be very frustrating for you. If you had the Adventure trim all along, you probably would have had your delivery by now.

I am not sure where I stand in the queue now as I didn't order as early as you did, but I was technically pushed back to 1H23 with Explore trim, which could have meant June 2023. Perhaps I will now get it at the beginning of next year instead?!
